Assistant / Associate Professor, Education Leadership

This is a 9-mont... h, tenure-line position. The selected individual will conduct an active research and publication program, teach master’s and doctoral courses in school and district leadership, provide advising support to graduate students, supervise doctoral students and dissertations, and provide service to the college, university, and the profession. This position is not possible to be performed remotely.
Required Qualifications An earned doctorate in education (or related fields such as sociology, political science, economics, public policy, and psychology) is required by August 2025. The candidate’s expertise must fall within the central areas of teaching and research on educational leadership and administration in P-12 settings. Candidates must show productivity or potential for national prominence through research published in peer-reviewed journals, as appropriate for rank. Candidates at the Assistant rank must possess the ability to teach graduate courses in-person and online related to educational leadership, while candidates at the Associate must have experience advising graduate students and teaching graduate courses in-person and/or online related to educational leadership.

The successful fellow will demonstrate an interest in improving K-12 education systems through enhancing culturally responsive education leadership practices and school mental health programs. The position is for two years, and the stipend will be $60,000 annually with benefits. Candidates will also receive up to $10,000 annually to cover research costs and professional development. Anticipated start date is August 1, 2025.
Fellows will have research roles in SCSMH. The primary mission of the center is to conduct innovative research that assists K-12 schools and school leaders with building capacity to deal with the mental health needs of Iowa teachers and students. Fellows may also be matched with other externally funded research projects with affiliated faculty that focus on developing and implementing professional development (PD) interventions to build educators’ knowledge and skills around K-20 academic, behavioral, and social emotional well-being. Across all projects, fellows will work directly with school leaders and stakeholders to collect data on mental health needs in K-12 settings, evaluate current PD efforts on critical school mental health topics, and pilot culturally responsive PD interventions focused on education leaders’ practice in a variety of settings, including underserved rural schools and districts, high need urban schools, and postsecondary settings.
