Research Assistant/Technician

Position Description: The technician will be responsible for performing molecular/cellular biology assays, biochemical assays, and rodent surgeries, (80% bench work) and general laboratory maintenance (10-20%). Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biological sciences or closely related field is a minimum educational requirement with at least 2 years of professional experience demonstrating independence.
Successful candidate should be independent and proficient in mammalian cell culture under sterile conditions, immunofluorescence/ immunohistochemistry, molecular/cellular biology techniques including DNA and RNA isolation, quantitative real time PCR, protein assays, ELISA, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, cell proliferation and viability assays and rodent surgery. Experience with in vivo breast cancer models, transgenic mice, and ability to perform small animal surgeries in a preclinical setting is required. Strong organizational, planning, data management, writing and communication skills as well as proficiency in computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe products, statistical software) are critical.
The Technician will work independently on cell culture techniques, molecular biology techniques and develop new laboratory techniques. Primary duties will include maintenance of cell cultures, confocal microscopy, protein biochemistry and purification, and mRNA isolation and analysis. The incumbent will carry out experiments, analyze data, and present results in addition to designing, optimizing and troubleshooting existing and newly developed experimental protocols in the laboratory. Attendance at weekly laboratory meetings is expected where the incumbent will provide input into project design, experimental process, and data analysis.
General lab maintenance and administration responsibilities (5-10% efforts) include preparing solutions for assays, assisting in lab orders and inventories of chemicals, etc.
