The University of Alberta’s Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute are home to some of the premier programs in the country in the areas of Advanced Heart Failure, Multimodality Imaging, Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Diseases of the Aorta, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pulmonary Hypertension, Inherited Disorders and Cardiac Oncology. The Mazankowski Heart Institute is unique, providing both Pediatric and Adult Care with regular collaboration with the Pediatric colleagues. The University of Alberta is also home to a very successful post graduate Internal Medicine, Cardiology and several Cardiology Fellowships.
The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent, and certification in Cardiology and Echocardiography. Training and experience in Interventional Echocardiography would be an asset. They will be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, as well as be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Queens Medical Center- West I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Prepares and performs echocardiographic and vascular examinations on patients and collaborates with physicians on examinations.
II. T... YPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Finger dexterity, seeing, hearing. • Continuous: reaching at shoulders. • Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, twisting of body, and speaking. • Occasional: stooping/bending, squatting, reaching above and below shoulder level, lifting usual weight of 50 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds of force, repetitive arm/hand motion, static gripping of object for prolonged.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: • Subjected to inside environmental condition (i.e., low light setting). • Subjected to noise/vibration from ultrasound transducer. • Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: • Board registered by American Registry of Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in cardiac or vascular sonography. If not registered upon hire, registration must be obtained within twelve (12) months of entrance into the position. • Current BLS certification.
B. EXPERIENCE: • Prior recent experience as a cardiac and/or vascular sonographer in an acute health care facility preferred.

The focus of the role is to provide excellence in cardiac echo practice... . This role will be supporting the Cardiology team to provide patient focused care in our daily clinical practice in line with Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, Te Matau a Māui Hawkes Bays values. The Cardiac sonographer role is to perform and report adult transthoracic cardiac ultrasound examinations (echocardiograms) in both inpatient and outpatient (hospital-based clinic and rural/community outreach clinic including Wairoa, Central Hawke’s Bay and Napier) settings. The Cardiac sonographer will be able to perform stress echocardiograms, use echocardiogram contrast and assist Cardiologists with transoesophageal echocardiograms. Scanning expertise in adult congenital heart disease and/or paediatric echocardiograms will be advantageous. Professional development and interests in education and/or leadership will be encouraged. The Cardiac sonographer will hold an appropriate post graduate qualification acceptable for registration with the Medical Radiation Technologist Board (MRTB) as a sonographer scope of practise. They will be able to perform all echocardiogram procedures to a high standard ensuring the needs of patients accessing the Cardiology service are met. Sonographers are responsible for the outcome of the ultrasound and will generate an accurate and comprehensive electronic report in a timely manner and where appropriate escalate all concerning echocardiogram findings so that they can be reviewed by the Cardiologists. They will also be expected to interact professionally with and provide support to the nursing and medical staff and other professional staff working within the multidisciplinary team.
