Jungle Keeper - Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo
As a full-time jungle keeper, you will be responsible for the care and well-being of a large multi-species collection within a 2 acre indoor rainforest exhibit. Animal collection includes mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish, with a strong emphasis on New World and Old World Primates. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily husbandry and care associated with feeding and cleaning animal enclosures. Candidate must excel in a fast-paced and highly changing environment. Candidates must work holidays, weekends, and inclement weather and in varying temperatures and climates. Candidates need to be highly motivated and a team player with excellent interpersonal conflict resolution skills.

This position provides animal and exhibit care and maintenance so that healthy, well-adjusted animals, and attractive, instructive exhibits are presented to guests of the Audubon Zoo in a manner that supports the Zoo’s mission of connecting people, animals, and the natural world to save wildlife. The incumbent ensures appropriate welfare of the animals including but not limited to: daily husbandry, operant conditioning, participation in enrichment program, safe capture and restraint, and dietary management. Applicant must work well in a team environment as well as individually. Experience with avian species, incubation, hand rearing, and operant conditioning preferred.

The Commissary Supervisor oversees the operation, staffing, and maintenance of the zoo’s commissary. This position orders, coordinates, and budgets all animal food and related supplies, oversees and participates in preparation of animal diets, maintains all kitchen and food storage areas, and supervises department staff.

Three years of experience working in a food preparation setting is required. Bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology, nutrition, food management, or related field and supervisory experience are preferred. Conservation Educator

Hospital Keeper- Aquatic Quarantine

The Hospital Keeper provides support to the Head Veterinarian and other veterinary staff by assisting with animal care, quarantine, water quality testing, and hospital maintenance responsibilities. This position will have a heavy focus on aquatic animals and the maintenance of aquarium systems and will also provide relief for the Environmental Quality Technician, performing basic water quality testing two days each week.

A Bachelor’s Degree in an animal-related field and two years of experience working in a zoological setting are preferred. A background in aquarium husbandry is also an asset. This position supports the daily operations and educational programming of the Wildlife Education Program at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency and comprehensive knowledge of animal care and training principles, practices, procedures, and protocols, as well as wildlife ecology, conservation, and natural history. They will develop and deliver seasonal educational programs for the Wildlife Education Program and represent the Wildlife Education Program both internally and externally.
