The Corps Director for Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) provides local leadership for a growing program within the Conservation Legacy family of programs. CCNC is a dynamic and fast paced program which engages youth, young adults and Veterans in conservation service with land management partners. Our team works from our operational base in the Raleigh-Durham area on a variety of high impact trail, park, habitat restoration, and disaster recovery projects that preserve, restore, and enhance the beautiful state of North Carolina. CCNC project partners stretch from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Outer Banks and include the US Forest Service, National Park Service, North Carolina State Parks and local and municipal organizations and governments.

Staff Crew Leader

Conservation Corps North Carolina’s Staff Crew Leaders perform many roles and are the key to our program’s success. Leaders are expected to provide project expertise and offer mentorship, training, and support to 4-6 crew members. The position is multi-faceted and demanding, but with opportunity for enormous rewards.

Successful candidates will demonstrate resourcefulness, situational flexibility, effective communication skills, excellent judgement, maturity, initiative, professionalism, and the desire to devote themselves to a crew experience where the needs of others are placed above oneself. The Crew Leader position requires, mentorship, patience, technical aptitude, focus on efficiency, and a high level of comfort in the outdoors. Crew Leaders are ultimately responsible for successes and shortcomings of the crew. 

This position will be joined by an AmeriCorps Crew Leader, an AmeriCorps leadership position focusing on the continued development of leadership skills. While this will be a collaborative relationship, the Staff Crew Leader bears ultimate responsibility for member development, as well as high quality and high quantity project accomplishments for our partners. 

CCNC is an independent, non-residential program. Staff Crew Leads are responsible for their own housing, food, and transportation when not in the field unless otherwise specified. Some equipment is available to borrow throughout the season, but Staff Crew Leaders are asked to supply as much of their own personal outdoor gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, day pack, multi-day pack, work pants, hiking/work boots, etc) as possible. In the field, CCNC will provide food, group camp equipment, tools, protective gear, and transportation between Camp Slocum and project sites.

Assistant Crew Leader (ACL) Responsibilities:
ACLs are primarily responsible for facilitating a positive Crew Member experience.  The ACL is a full partner in the crew’s leadership, helping to communicate directions, projects specifications and constructive criticism throughout the term.  This position requires open dialog with the Staff Crew Leader; helping them to manage projects, project partners communications, overall logistics, and crew assignments.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a commuter young adult crew with Conservation Corps North Carolina. Each crew consists of 4 - 6 adult crew members and 2 experienced and trained Crew Leaders. Crews will complete conservation service projects in the field Monday - Friday and return home each evening. Members will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the office. Members will need to bring a daypack/backpack with rain gear, plenty of drinking water, snacks, and a lunch each day. Crew members have Saturday and Sunday off.

Schedule and Crew Life: 

CCNC field crews consist of 4-6 crew members and 2 crew leaders who provide project expertise, mentorship, training, and support for the success of all participants. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with weekends off.

Position Summary:
The Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) Enrollment Specialist will be responsible for identifying, building, and maintaining relationships with recruitment sources; recruiting, interviewing, and selecting all SECC participants; managing selection and all on-boarding paperwork; direct participant and program support; aiding members with post program placement when possible; and participating in the development of new programs and trainings. Program Summary:
The Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC), a non-profit service organization, is a program of Conservation Legacy. Built on the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) SECC provides youth, young adults, and veterans opportunities to complete conservation projects
on public and private lands throughout Tennessee and Southeast region. While serving with SECC members learn natural resource management practices and team work though completing high quality projects such as prescribed burning, fuels management, land
restoration, trail construction, invasive plant management, disaster relief, and much more.
SECC operates field programs nearly year-round. Annually, field crew and internship engagement averages approximately 130 corps members and roughly 16 seasonal Crew Leaders or Assistant Crew Leaders, with a support staff of six to seven.

Position Summary:
The Internship Program Coordinator is responsible for managing effective and efficient support of the Internship program at SECC. Our internship program recruits and places roughly 25 individuals per year within the geographic region served by SECC. This position interacts with other Conservation Legacy staff on admissions processes, member tracking, and other areas of administrative support. This person will be responsible for the current internship program across SECC’s region and desired growth of the internship program.

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting local programs across the region in developing participant and staff technical skills, supporting programs with strategic projects and operational needs, and engaging in the quality assurance of local programs within the region. This position will work directly with the Operations Specialist to prioritize strategies and needs across the region and support local program staff in the execution of their individual programming. This position is a key staff member contributing to Conservation Legacy’s effort to further develop leadership and talent as a key trainer of program staff in facilitation and technical skillsets. Some focus
areas may include: providing training and technical support for crew-based programs’ staff and participants, developing curriculum for new skills training, working with program staff and/or partners to develop technical specifications and standards for projects, leading skills trainings for community partners, and supporting national and regional programmatic development strategies. Leaders of Color Crew Member

Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) is seeking crew members for its first ever Leaders of Color Crew.

In this year long program, members will engage in a variety of natural resource management and disaster mitigation projects through fuels management and prescribed burn project work. The Leaders of Color crew provides an open and supportive space where BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) members work with, learn from, and grow alongside one another as members gaining leadership and technical skills, engage in professional development opportunities through trainings and certifications related to fire, natural resource management, and disaster mitigation.

This crew consists of 1 Crew Leader and 4 Crew Members.

As a member of the crew, you will perform manual labor, and complete conservation projects using a variety of manual and power tools. You will be engaged in the program as an AmeriCorps Member and will participate in environmental education and leadership development activities in addition to project work.

Risk management is of utmost importance, and all policies and procedures must be followed.

Projects may include but are not limited to prescribed burns, natural resource management, habitat restoration and fencing, re-vegetation, invasive species removal, trail construction and maintenance and a variety of other local environmental service projects. Paddleboard Guide and Rental Team Member

Imagine being able to spend the summer guiding guests on the river in Brevard!

The ideal candidate should be an experienced paddleboarder who also has a passion for educating guests about the French Broad River watershed.

**Responsibilities and Duties**

• Guide small, private groups of guests down the French Broad River outside of Brevard.

• Ensure customer safety while also keeping things informative, engaging, and fun.

• Drive a shuttle van with attached trailer to collect/drop off gear and help customers with rental equipment.

• Provide proper instruction on paddleboard technique, and be able to discuss directions and hazards for rentals and self-guided trips.

• Deliver boards to private lake homes around Brevard and WNC.

• Oversee a small amount of merchandise sales.

**Qualifications**

• ACA or WPA SUP Instructor certification (preferred, but not required)

• Be a self-starter and team player with a positive, “can do” attitude.

• Be comfortable working in an outdoor environment with knowledge of rivers, proper river safety, and local ecology and wildlife.

• Be available to work weekends, mornings, and long, fun-filled days.

• Be easygoing, have a sense of humor, and thrive in a fast-paced customer service environment.

• Knowledge of online reservation systems, or have a willingness to learn.

• Ability to think outside of the box and be sales driven and oriented.

• Have previous experience in hospitality and outdoor recreation.

• Clean driving record and experience with backing a trailer (preferred)

Paddleboard Operations Manager

That’s essentially the role of the Operations Manager, who will handle all aspects of daily operations. (Wai Mauna holds all necessary permits from Idaho Fish and Game and Teton County).

This is a full time, seasonal position that runs from May 20 through Labor Day weekend.

If you’ve ever guided in Grand Teton or Yellowstone—but don’t want to commute/drive each day, and live in Teton County—this is the perfect opportunity to work in summer tourism while still being close to home.

The Operations Manager can expect to work 5-6 days per week and be comfortable working in a flexible, fast-paced environment. Some days might start at 7-8am and not finish until 7pm. Others might finish around 2pm, depending on reservations, and while the days can sometime be pretty long, the commission structure ensures there’s no upper limit on how much money you can earn.

The Operations Manager will work in tandem with the owner (who manages multiple locations across the country), and for the bulk of the season will be the sole person managing the company’s operation in Driggs.

The job entails a diverse range of tasks, from knowledge of paddleboarding gear and technique, to knowing how to back a trailer and work with scheduling software.

Strong communication skills and proficiency with project management are essential.

The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, and have a deep background in outdoor recreation and hospitality management.
