The VISTA Collaboration Specialist position is open to recent college graduates interested in collaborative conservation, social aspects of natural resources, community-engaged conservation, environmental communication, environmental sociology, and other related interests. Prior knowledge in collaborative conservation is a plus, but not required. The VISTA’s primary responsibility will be to maintain and expand a network of place-based conservation collaboratives in NM to increase their capacity through access to peer-learning, informational resources, and communications support.

Fire Effects Monitor
National Park Service Grand Canyon National Park is recruiting for temporary, seasonal jobs to monitor the effects of fire on vegetation and fuels.
A Fire Effects Monitor (GS-04/GS-05 Biolo... gical Science Technician) establishes monitoring plots to measure a variety of vegetation/fuel types according to national Fire Monitoring Handbook (FMH). Experience and interest in outdoor field work and data collection, plus plant identification skills are key to success in these positions. Plot measurements include sampling trees, shrubs, grasses, forbs, litter, duff, and woody fuels. Good physical fitness is necessary for hiking cross-country while carrying a fully loaded backpack, as well as participating in arduous fire duties (ie, redcarded).
Although plot reading and data management are the primary responsibilities, these positions are desired to be redcarded. Two-week fire assignments to any part of the country are a possibility during the work season, and employees may be expected to assist in park suppression, prescribed fire, and wildland fire for resource benefit efforts. This work may range from filling in on a wildland engine, to digging fireline with handtools, to igniting prescribed fires with drip torches, to monitoring weather and fire behavior on managed fires in the backcountry.

UNR Extension Living With Fire Program The University of Nevada, Reno Extension, is recruiting for a full-time Administrative Faculty position as the Community Wildfire Preparedness Coordinator with the Living With Fir... e program. This position is located in Reno, NV, and reports to the Living With Fire Program Director.
The Living With Fire (LWF) Program is a statewide interagency effort coordinated by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) that teaches communities to live more safely in wildfire-prone regions. This Coordinator, Community Wildfire Preparedness, will work directly with federal agencies and community partners to update and create Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) throughout Nevada. The position is funded for three years with potential for continuation based on funding.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience, OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related professional work experience Related Experience: Natural Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or other closely related field; project coordination or related field
This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.
