Sustainability Coordinator

This is a professional position responsible for directing a Sustainability Program, designed to develop and implement climate programs, such as the Monroe County Climate Action Plan and the Monroe County Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Plan. Senior Hydraulic Modeler

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Hydraulic Modeler include:


Working with project engineers to analyze data and apply hydrology and hydraulics modeling techniques. Typical project work includes analysis of urban drainage systems to characterize frequency and magnitude of capacity limitations, and subsequent development of cost-effective solutions to reduce flooding and/or discharges of pollution to ambient waterways. Project work can also involve analyses of drinking-water distribution systems. Typical tasks include application of commercial and in-house software to statistically and graphically analyze data, develop and calibrate hydrologic and hydraulic models, application of models to develop and evaluate control alternatives, and periodic documentation of methods and results in written reports and verbal presentations.

Occasional field work with trips to project sites is also possible.

The City of Canandaigua is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Assistant Chief Water Resource Recovery Operator (WRRO).

Appointment will be made on a Provisional basis, with permanent appointment following successful qualification in the Civil Service Examination, which will be scheduled at a later date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Grade 3 or 3A Wastewater Treatment Operators Certification at the time of appointment, AND:
1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and 30 credit hours of math and/or science; OR

2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in a NYSDEC approved curriculum plus 18 months of operating experience at a wastewater treatment plant; OR

3. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree plus three years of operating experience at a wastewater treatment plant; OR

4. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of operating experience at a wastewater treatment plant

- Possession of a valid New York State Class D Driver's License at the time of appointment.

- Supervision of staff engaged in monitoring and performing daily facility operations.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is an important managerial, supervisory and technical position involving responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Grade 4 WRRF with process facilities for screening, grit removal, primary settling, final settling, chemical feed, fixed film biological treatment, post aeration, on-site hypo generation, odor control, gravity sludge thickening, sludge digestion and belt filter press dewatering.

Under minimal direction, serves as the specialist for the Water / Wastewater Department in the planning, design, and permitting of various water and wastewater conveyance and treatment system projects. Candidates shall have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of applicable local, county, and state rules, regulations and industry practices. Familiarity with public bidding procedures and Local Public Contracts Law (N.J.S.A. 40A:11-1 et seq. and N.J.A.C. 5:34) is necessary.
