Director of Public Works

The Chosen Spot is seeking a demonstrated leader to serve as Director of Public Works. The person will have strong administrative and leadership skills and be a strategic planner, trustworthy, highly responsible, and committed to customer service, internally and externally.
The City provides a full range of municipal services including water treatment, waste water treatment, solid waste collection, fourteen parks and safe & walkable streets and sidewalks. The Department of Public Works is the largest City Department with 57.84 FTEs. The City’s Department of Public Works is divided into five bureaus, each led by a Supervisor, which include Central Garage, Parks and Recreation, Streets & Solid Waste Collection, and Utilities (Water, Sewer, Street Lights). The Water Treatment Plant and Water Resource Recovery Facility are supervised and operated by Chief Operators.

Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Soil/Agricultural/ Environmental Scientist. This role involves both office and fieldwork, with flexibility for some remote work. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical project support for residuals management from municipal, industrial, and commercial wastewater treatment and potable-water treatment. Duties include conducting fieldwork at agricultural sites, interacting with environmental regulators and farmers, analyzing data, and preparing regulatory permit applications.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Agronomy, or related field
• Experience in consulting in the fields of environmental, engineering and science
• Proficient in field investigations, sample collection, data collection, management and analysis
• Experience in providing Environmental Consulting services
• Knowledge in state and federal environmental regulations
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Relevant certifications, Certified Professional Soil Scientist and Nutrient Management Planning, are highly desirable but not required. Experience in agriculture or experience with biosolids management is also a plus.
