This section of the zoo features a variety of Australian mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians including Eastern grey kangaroo, dingo, Australian passerine, psittacine, and waterfowl species, woma python, and red-eyed tree frog..

Responsibilities: The Animal Care Supervisor is a working leadership position that provides direct supervision of employees and coordination of daily operations in a specified animal area and assists with other zoo operations as required. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field and three years of experience in a zoological setting are required. Operant conditioning experience is preferred.

Animal Care Manager - Training
St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station
The St. Louis Aquarium is building a reputation as a leader in providing interactive opportunities to guests in order to connect them more closely to nature. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations in the Aquarium’s Ambassador Animal collection, a key role in a key department to achieving the Aquarium’s vision. Primary responsibilities include the behavioral conditioning, care, wellbeing and management of all ambassador animals under the facility’s care as well as occasionally aquatic animals as appropriate; positive management of all staff within the training team; leading public presentations with the facility’s wide variety of animals; and maintenance of all ambassador animal habitats.. Additionally, this position is responsible for the continual development of enrichment programs within the facility; and continually developing the skills of the training staff.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Five years + experience with care and training of mammals and birds required.

Two years + in a similar management role required.

Certified Diver required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

First Aid, Emergency O2, and AED certification required.

Degree in wildlife/marine biology or relevant work experience required.

Proven aptitude for developing compelling habitats preferred.

Experienced animal biologist/aquarist with a strong background in reptiles, amphibians, birds and small mammals required.

Animal Ambassador Trainer 1

Animal Welfare Specialist 3 (Senior)
Coral World Ocean Park
The AWS 3 works directly under the supervision of the Marine Mammal Manager in their
assigned area. This trainer is responsible for performing all animal training, cleaning, food
preparation, and recordkeeping duties performed by the AWS 1 and AWS 2 positions. In
addition, this AWS 3 is responsible for assisting the Assistant Curator in supervising the rest
of the staff and monitoring the overall animal operation. The AWS 3 is the senior staff member
on-site when the Marnie Mammal Manager or Assistant Curator are unavailable and is
responsible for making difficult animal training and operational decisions in the supervisor’s
place. This trainer is expected to use their extensive animal training knowledge and experience
to manage complex behavioral challenges and train advanced behaviors without assistance.
The AWS 3 must have strong customer service skills and is expected to handle customer
related problems when they arise.
The AWS 3 is also expected to organize and lead all aspects of the park’s trainer development
program. This trainer must display excellent leadership and communication skills, and acts as
both a mentor for the entire training staff and an objective voice for the Marine Mammal
Manager and Assistant Curator of Marine Mammals and Birds.
Position Requirements
➢ Bachelor’s degree in psychology, biology, or a related scientific discipline (or a
comparable level of education/experience that would provide the necessary knowledge
to meet the minimum qualifications for the position).
➢ AWS 3 (senior level): Minimum five years full time paid animal training experience.
➢ Ability to lift 66 pounds, work outdoors in all conditions, and work a variable schedule
(including weekends and possibly evenings).
➢ A basic understanding of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and
Powerpoint.
➢ Able to work legally in the United States (Coral World does not provide visas for
international applicants).

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

Aids the Veterinarians as needed including support for anesthesia, endoscopy, surgery, radiology, ultrasound,
dentistry, biopsies, necropsy, catheterization, and fluid therapy of birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish.
2. Communicates with staff, on-call veterinarian, and with designated supervisors as needed. Responds to
emergencies, performs physical examinations, carries out treatment, collects diagnostic samples, and dispenses
or administers medications as directed by Veterinarians.
3. Maintains a current veterinary supply inventory and coordinates procurement. Prepares purchase orders and
check requests within Marine Operations budget with General Curator approval.
4. Assists in maintaining all veterinary medical records, logs, accurate data records and distributes laboratory
results as directed.
5. Assumes primary responsibility for animal health laboratory procedures. Performs diagnostic tests on biological
samples, using both manual and automated techniques.
6. Prepares, ships, and assists with tracking diagnostic samples.
7. Coordinates with Assistant Curators and personnel to track and maintain samples and ensures that laboratory is
well stocked and resourced.
8 No. Maintains accurate data records and distributes laboratory results as directed.
9. Maintain, calibrate and quality control, on standard laboratory equipment (e.g. Idexx machine, Istat, centrifuge,
microscopes, etc). Order, set-up, and learn new equipment as needed.
10. Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous biological material,
including blood-borne pathogens in the workplace.
11. Maintains workspaces in safe and sanitary condition. Ensures areas are cleaned and controlled as appropriate.
