The Technical Specialist serves as a technical expert in the regulations, policies, and application for each of the certification scopes that OTCO administers. The Technical Specialist works to support the certification services by researching and resolving technical questions, providing training, and developing technical resources. The Technical Specialist engages in investigating and resolving contentious certification issues. The Technical Specialist works with the Quality and Accreditation department and appropriate staff to implement the goals of the accreditation and certification programs to ensure a high level of quality, accuracy, and integrity in OTCO’s certification delivery. The Technical Specialist collaborates with all team members in the Quality and Accreditation Department in addition to Certification Management, Education and Advocacy, and Communications and Marketing teams and other teams to provide exemplary customer service and leadership. Ecocert USA announces an immediate opening for Contract Inspectors / Auditors for 2023, with an emphasis on textile certifications in the US (nationwide-coverage). The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct inspections of textile operators for compliance to the GOTS and/or Textile Exchange Standards.

Staff Inspector/Auditor

Principal Duties:
Review farm, livestock and/or handling system plans in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
Handle travel and scheduling logistics and conduct inspections of applicants and certified operations as assigned.
Assess compliance of operations with applicable regulations/standards and report
Communicate inspection results through excellent written and oral communication within established timelines.
Interface with certification staff to provide further information necessary for final
Conduct peer evaluations of other inspectors in the field, as assigned.
Work collaboratively with other NICS/Ecocert staff to share context and information gathered during inspection trips and meeting with producers to help inform and improve NICS policies, procedures, and business practices.
Travel extensively 50-75% of the time throughout the United States.
Qualifications:
University degree in agriculture or food science, OR extensive farming or processing experience, OR equivalent inspecting or auditing experience for organic, social justice, fair trade, traceability, or food safety standards.
Knowledge of USDA NOP related international
Detail-oriented, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Highly self-organized with the ability to prioritize work, managing multiple projects while maintaining quality. Ability to work independently and partner with a diverse group of staff and producers.
Able to clearly communicate complex technical information in a positive and effective

Handler Certification Specialist

Position Summary:
The CCOF Handler Certification Specialist reviews inspection reports, mid-year updates, and/or applications of prospective and currently certified organic food processor and handler operations.

This is a full-time, remote “work from home” position. We will also consider candidates who would like to work from our Santa Cruz, CA office.

This position does not include on-site inspections of certified organic operations and will not include field work in the future.

Required Qualifications:
• B.A. degree or higher in food science, chemistry, or related field.
• Computer proficiency in word processing, formatting, databases, and email. Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Clear, direct, and concise written communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, noticing errors, ensuring errors are resolved and leaving things in better shape than you found them.
• Ability to organize, monitor, plan ahead, and follow through on tasks with competing deadlines.
• Ability to think critically logically, quickly, and autonomously and propose solutions to problems.
• Comfort in a regulatory role communicating requirements to clients and ensuring that standards are met.
