Postdoc in memory systems and machine learning
Uppsala University
Investigate the use of machine learning for memory system optimization both as a tool to optimize designs (offline) and to adapt to dynamic behavior (online). We welcome applicants with computer architecture backgrounds and/or machine learning backgrounds. The position is part of the Automating System SpeSific Model-Based LEarning project, which combines researchers in machine learning, control theory, compilation, and architecture to develop new tools to support the use of machine learning across different fields. You will work with machine learning researchers to understand how to apply probabilistic programming and neural networks for memory system optimization. The expected results are approaches for better offline design (optimization, analysis) and architectural designs that can support the execution of the algorithms at runtime to aid data placement decisions. More information on the project can be found at http://www.it.uu.se/research/assemble/.

Candidates should have expertise in architecture and/or memory system design. Experience with machine learning techniques is a plus, but we have the expertise to teach these as part of the project. The applicant must be able to work in a diverse group and give/receive constructive criticism. The position is for 2 years and may include teaching depending on availability and interests.

Secure Processor Architecture Design for IoT SoCs
National University of Singapore (NUS)
At the School of Computing at NUS, we are working to develop secure hardware platforms that are resilient against physical attacks (injection, RF monitoring, etc.), potential hardware trojans and rogue IPs and software. The project aims to develop secure designs targeted for high-compute IoT gateway and edge devices. While expensive VLSI circuit protection techniques help to mitigate some of these issues, they incur too much overhead and would be impractical for cost-sensitive IoT devices. By leveraging selective use of these expensive hardware mitigation strategies, but providing additional hardware protection in the computer architecture domain, we aim to minimize system overheads required for a secure system.

Feel free to contact me (Trevor Carlson) any time during FCRC, and we can chat more about this opportunity.

Associate professor/Professor in Algorithms and Complexity
Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
We are recruiting in the core area of algorithms and complexity as part of computer science. The focus of this position is on the more theoretical sides of computer science, with an emphasis on complexity and algorithm design, possibly leaning more in one of the two directions than the other. While the connection to theory is central, applied research is certainly welcome.

In any performance-critical system where the size of the problem instance grows beyond the trivial, using the right algorithm becomes crucial—and in many cases, such an algorithm may not be readily available. Both in direct applications and as components of other computer science technologies such as compilers, operating systems, or machine-learning systems, complex problems requiring custom-tailored algorithms are frequently encountered. More fundamentally, maintaining and developing knowledge about this area, including what is currently known about the landscape of complexity classes, is a core responsibility of the field of computer science, and a natural research activity for any department in the area.
