Chief of Party, Markets and Nutrition

We are currently seeking a dynamic and proven leader with technical expertise and experience managing donor-funded programs as Chief of Party for an anticipated five-year USAID-funded project that will strengthen the market systems for small ruminants, poultry, cowpeas, and local nutritious foods. The project’s goal is to strengthen market systems such that household incomes and nutritional status are sustainably improved leading to enhanced performance of commodity market systems, increased utilization of quality inputs and services, and increased local consumption of nutritious, safe foods. Qualifications

At least 10 years of professional experience working in livestock or agricultural development programs, including at least 3 in West Africa; Burkina Faso experience highly desired.

Advanced degree in agribusiness, agricultural economics, agronomy, livestock health/management, nutrition, or related field.

Prior Chief of Party experience, as well as leadership skills, experience recruiting, developing, and managing staff is required.

Expertise in crops and/or livestock market systems and value chains.

Experience incorporating improved nutrition into programming.

Proven track record of building relationships with governmental organizations as well as private and community organizations is required.

Experience and familiarity with USAID procedures and policies is required.

Established track record of achieving results within difficult working environments is required.

Demonstrated commitment to the inclusion of youth and gender in programming.

Demonstrated ability to build coalitions and networks that can provide synergies and sustainable solutions to food security issues

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French required.

Research Associate

You will work closely with Professor Gordon Conway, Senior Adviser to the Panel, the Program Head, the two Co-Chairs of the Panel, and other Researchers. The primary task of the Research Associate will include writing easily accessible policy-oriented research outputs (papers, reports, briefing papers, presentations and blogs) on food, nutrition, agriculture, climate, environmental and development policy in Africa.
You must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in agriculture economics, international development, public policy, food and nutrition security or a related field. Experience in applied research and policy analysis is essential. You will also have experience in drafting reports and briefing papers for non-expert audiences, and a good understanding of international policies and policies relevant to Africa on agricultural development, food and nutrition security and climate change. Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce high-quality research analyses, excellent IT skills, and knowledge of development databases are essential. A working knowledge of French would be an advantage.
