NEH’s Humanities Data Scientist will support ODE’s goal of equitably fostering humanities in the US by evaluating grant programs and their impact against the national humanities landscape, and by reporting on the state of the humanities more generally.

Applicants should have experience evaluating research methods for soundness and biases, applying machine learning and/or statistical techniques to multifaceted and occasionally unstructured data, clearly reporting the results of sophisticated analyses to lay audiences, and empowering users to explore complex datasets through interactive visualizations and dashboards. Familiarity with humanities, cultural, educational, non-profit, and/or social scientific data, audiences, or practitioners is also essential. We especially welcome applicants with expertise in demographic and equity analyses and natural language processing techniques.

Potential candidates should address requirements in the job ad and self-assessment as directly as possible in their application materials.

The selectee may be hired at the GS-13 or GS-14 grade level based on their specialized experience. Although the job ad does not describe the position as remote, the selectee’s work location may be negotiable after selection. The annual salary range for the Washington, DC area is between $112,015 to $145,617 for the GS-13 level and $132,368 to $172,075 for the GS-14 level, but the locality salary rate may be adjusted based on the negotiated work location. This is a tenure track position with a reduced teaching load leading to a full professor position in four years. The position will start on January 1st, 2024.

Lecturer in Digital Liberal Arts and English Literature

The curriculum at Exeter covers all periods from the Middle Ages to the contemporary moment with the “literary text” conceived in the broadest possible terms. Alongside literature and creative writing modules, the Department is home to our Liberal Arts degree programme, which emphasises interdisciplinarity while enabling students to select a specialism (or Major). THE ROLE
1. To work with colleagues across the university in the redesign and expansion of Exeter’s Liberal Arts provision (including the programme’s digital humanities offering), ensuring student satisfaction on the programme and securing intake from new student markets around the world.
2. To fulfil research, teaching and administration duties as a lecturer in Liberal Arts with a specialism in Literary Studies in English. The postholder will be expected to teach on the Liberal Arts programme and they will have oversight of personal tutoring on the programme in their role Director of Student Experience for Liberal Arts in their first year at Exeter. They will also be tasked with developing the digital humanities components within the expanded Liberal Arts degree programme while contributing to the English Literary Studies programmes at UG and PGT/PGR level. They will have a co-ordinating role in developing interdisciplinary pathways and contribution to Liberal Arts modules and options. They will also be expected to innovate, designing and refining new and existing offering to enhance the quality of the programme.
3. To extend the research profile of English Literature and Liberal Arts, attracting and supervising postdoctorate researchers and postgraduate research students.
