Children's Surgical Specialty Group - CHKD Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia is the state’s only free-standing pediatric hospital, serving the families of Coastal Virginia, the... Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina. The Children’s Pediatric Surgery division provides the full spectrum of pediatric surgery care exclusively to the CHKD health system and currently consists of seven full-time pediatric surgeons, three trauma surgeons, and six full-time advanced practice providers. CHKD also serves as the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in the region, caring for the most severely injured patients with resources to address all aspects of accidental injury, from prevention through rehabilitation. CHKD is home to the Nuss procedure. Our surgical team performs the Nuss and Ravitch procedures to correct pectus excavatum, offering non-surgical options for milder cases. We also perform pectus carinatum surgery as well as non-surgical treatment including the compression brace. An academic appointment is available through our affiliation with Eastern Virginia Medical School. The division works closely with the medical school to facilitate clinical rotations of surgical and pediatric residents, as well as medical students.
