Children’s Surgical Specialty Group Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD), the home of the Nuss procedure, in Norfolk, Virginia, is the state’s only free-standing pediatric hospital, serving the familie... s of coastal Virginia, the Eastern Shore, and northeastern North Carolina. The Children’s Pediatric Surgery division provides the full spectrum of pediatric surgery care exclusively to the CHKD health system and currently consists of seven full-time pediatric surgeons, three adult trauma surgeons, who cover night time trauma call, and seven full time advanced practice providers. CHKD is licensed for 206 beds, including a 25-bed PICU, a 68-bed Level 4 NICU, and a 11-bed surgical suite. CHKD is a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center as verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). We also serve as the only Level I pediatric trauma center in the region, caring for the most severely injured patients with resources to address all aspects of accidental injury, from prevention through rehabilitation. An academic appointment is available through our affiliation with Eastern Virginia Medical School. The division works closely with the medical school to facilitate clinical rotations of surgical and pediatric residents, as well as medical students.
