Fish Biologist
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
The Arizona Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office-Whiteriver station is located in the White Mountains of east-central Arizona. There are extensive hiking, fishing, hunting, and camping opportunities throughout the area including the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, national forests, and state parks. We have a diverse team of individuals working on a range of projects involving native fish conservation (including Apache Trout recovery), sportfish management, and invasive species control. Although much of our office effort is dedicated to Apache Trout recovery projects, the incumbent will support Arizona tribes in their efforts to conserve a variety of native fish (e.g., Apache Trout, Gila Topminnow, Zuni Bluehead Sucker), manage sportfish (warmwater and coldwater) in lakes and streams, and manage aquatic invasive species (e.g., New Zealand mud snails).

Black Bear Graduate Research Assistant (M.Sc.)
Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University
Black bears were considered extirpated from Texas in the 1950s due to unregulated hunting, predator control, and habitat loss. Since being listed as state threatened by the state in 1987, black bears have naturally recolonized areas of Texas, dispersing from the Mexico source population to small suitable habitat patches which form subpopulations in west and south Texas

Borderlands Research Institute, in collaboration with Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, Customs and Border Protection, and US Fish and Wildlife Service have initiated a multi-year study aimed to gather data on black bears along the borderlands region of southwestern Texas and northern Mexico to assess the impact of the border barrier on large mammals.

The Graduate Research Assistant (MSc) will help establish an array of remotely activated cameras to document bear occupancy and habitat use as it relates to border infrastructure The Graduate Research Assistant will also assist with trapping and radio-collaring black bears as part of the larger monitoring project.
