JRP Historical Consulting is seeking candidates for an intern / research assistant to begin March 2019. Founded in 1981, JRP is one of the oldest and most experienced historical consulting firms in the nation. We specialize in natural resource investigations related to Western water rights, land use, and toxics / pollution; expert historical services for litigation and dispute resolution; and cultural resources management, including Section 106 of the National Historical Preservation Act and California Environmental Quality Act compliance.
Responsibilities will include undertaking library and archival research, both independently and under the direction of other JRP professional staff and partners; managing research materials and files, organizing findings, preparing bibliographies, and conducting data entry; participating in fieldwork to record and photo-document buildings and structures; drafting historic contexts and building descriptions; assembling and producing technical reports; and assisting administrative staff, among other tasks.
The successful candidate will have (or be near completion of) a BA in History (U.S. and / or California history preferred), or a related academic discipline such as American Studies; proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, etc.) or comparable software; and a clean driving record. Experience with photography and primary-source / archival research are pluses.
Pay will be commensurate with educational attainment and prior experience.
Minimum of 16 hours per week, and 4 hours per day; availability for 8-hour days and overnight travel preferred.
