Urban Horse Project www.urbanhorseproject.com ‘s mission is to provide connections with horses in welcoming and inclusive spaces in order to strengthen personal and community well-being.

We are seeking up to two (2) volunteer Board Directors who will help us grow and develop by serving on our board. The Board meets six to eight times per year via videoconference or in-person. The time commitment is about 4 hours monthly, for a term of two to three years.

The Board of Directors is seeking applicants with a passion for our mission, and with specific skills and attributes, namely:

• Governance: demonstrated knowledge in board governance in the voluntary/non-profit sector.
• Strong Communication, Teamwork & Interpersonal Skills: able to build relationships to help UHP.
• Community Social Services: experience in the sector and understanding of operations of agencies.
• Strategic Planning & Leadership: demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically.
• Specific Knowledge & Expertise: community development, non-profit organizational standards, communications, diversity and inclusion, and/or human resources planning would be assets.

Staff Lawyer

Reporting to PLEO’s Supervising Lawyer/Legal Director, the staff lawyer is an exciting new position and will enable PLEO to expand legal services to BC and the Yukon’s arts and culture sector and BC’s non-profit sector through the launch of two pilot legal clinics over the next year. The position is full-time.

Initially, the staff lawyer will support the Legal Director in establishing the foundation for the clinics: advancing PLEO’s client-intake systems and onboarding clinic volunteers, training law students, and developing clinical best practices and standard operating procedures. PLEO, home of Artists’ Legal Outreach, is spearheading an exciting initiative to build a National Network of Legal Clinics for the Arts, in collaboration with the Artists Legal Advice Services (Toronto) and the Artists Legal Services Ottawa, with a mission to enable existing and new artists’ legal clinics to share resources, best practices and insights to improve and expand the provision of legal services for creators across Canada. These clinics provide critical capacity support to individual creators, arts organizations, their administrators, technicians and other arts professionals. They provide significant learning opportunities for the sector by offering an online database of resources and dozens of educational workshops annually.

Located anywhere in Canada and reporting directly to PLEO’s Director of Communications, the Project Manager is key to kicking off and laying the groundwork for the National Network of Legal Clinics for the Arts. The role involves event organization, networking, extensive consensus building, communication and public relations, and requires extensive knowledge of and experience working with Canada’s arts support ecosystem, including National Arts Support Organizations (NASOs).
