Lead Research Assistant

The Labor and Economic Analysis Division of the NC Dept of Commerce seeks a Lead Social Research Assistant for its Occupational Analysis Team. The position is responsible for assisting the Occupational Analysis Team manager with the operation of the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program as well as carrying out data collection, editing, coding, statistical estimation, research, and analysis in support of the OEWS program. The OEWS program is a statewide economic and statistical program that produces economic employment and wage indicators by occupation for the state of North Carolina and several sub-state geographic areas and regions.
Responsibilities include:
• Communicating with employers to collect accurate and complete data, ensuring that data meets established program quality standards.
• Organizing, collecting, compiling, updating, entering and uploading data into data management systems.
• Serving as a lead research assistant and subject matter expert and assisting other analysts with data collection, coding, editing, and updating of information in data management systems.
• Monitoring and reviewing work completed by other staff and ensuring data is complete and accurate.
• Carrying out analysis, completing reports, and assisting in the management of the OEWS systems and databases.
• Establishing and maintaining effective communication with state and federal officials, respondents, management, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
• Reviewing, interpreting, implementing, and providing feedback regarding operational procedures.
• Ensuring that all data collection, processing, and estimation procedures adhere to data integrity and confidentiality requirements.
• Reviewing and analyzing data for accuracy and completeness, assigning occupational codes to survey responses and resolving data quality issues.
