Job Description

Primary Purpose:
The Manager Environmental Programs and Systems is responsible for Norfolk Southern’s compliance with a wide array of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and supporting systems.

The position will act as a program manager for stationary source air permitting and compliance (i.e., synthetic/minor source permits), but other environmental compliance Subject Matter Expertise (e.g., water, waste, etc.) will be considered where relevant skills translate. The incumbent serves as the primary regulatory expert on environmental compliance primarily, but not exclusively, focusing on air quality and climate change matters. The position also manages regulatory compliance and voluntary management practices for locomotive fuel pipelines (e.g., PHMSA) and dust mitigation during transportation of coal.

Principal Duties:
Extensive working knowledge of EHS Management Information Systems (EMIS) is expected or an aptitude to quickly develop such technology skills. The position acts as an EMIS administrator updating content, troubleshooting technical matters on behalf of end users, and liaising with IT support to resolve issues. Responsible for executing EMIS updates associated with personnel changes and those changes stemming from an evolving environmental regulatory landscape. Preference will be given to candidates who have a history of deploying commercially available EMIS or developing Microsoft Power Platform technology
