Scans and links submitted forms into electronic student file in Image Now. Updates data in Campus Vue and CLA appropriately based on information received.
Calculates estimated financial aid award in accordance with federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations; explains University costs, aid eligibility and gap financing options, and explains the ongoing financial aid process.
Assists student and parents with directions for requesting FSA User IDs, and online completion of FAFSAs (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), MPNs (Master Promissory Notes), and online student loan entrance and exist counseling. Provides in-person student loan counseling for those who are unable to complete online counseling.
Provides student/parent with other required documents such as:

Instructions on requesting tax transcripts/utilizing DRT (Data Retrieval Tool)
Requested documents to clear C Codes (Code alerting students they cannot receive aid until comment is resolved)

As part of Student Affairs, we in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) are seeking a highly motivated, helpful individual to join our intimate team. As our Associate Director of Financial Aid Systems, you will be overseeing our Systems Team with currently includes two Application Programmers who are responsible for analysis, design, development, and implementation of solutions to mission-critical systems which supports the delivery of Financial Aid services to undergraduate and graduate students. We utilize a JIRA project tracking system to initiate, assign, and monitor technical tasks.

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) administers various federal, state, and institutional aid programs which rely on various cloud-based technologies and are heavily dependent upon vendor developed data management solutions, student management systems, in-house programming staff, and Campus IT support. These technologies are deeply integrated into daily work.

You will work closely with the Student Information System (SIS) Group within the larger campus Information Technology organization to sustain, utilize and maximize our SIS (i.e., Banner). You will collaborate with the SIS Group, Housing and Payroll on feeds in and out of Banner to support various processes within our department. You will also support electronic feeds with our outside vendors and organizations, such as the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), the Department of Education, UC Office of the President, ELM Resources, National Student Clearinghouse, etc. which play critical roles in the processing of financial aid for UC Merced students. You will also work closely with our Student Information Systems (SIS) Team to coordinate the scheduling and testing of system upgrades, patches and fixes.

Assistant Director of Financial Aid, State Aid Programs

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Operations for Student Financial Aid, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, State Aid Programs oversees major functional areas in a highly automated Financial Aid Office. The Assistant Director of Financial Aid counsels prospective and current students/families on all aspects of financial aid, scholarships, and student accounts, as well as participates in outreach activities and presentations to encourage timely completion of the financial aid and scholarship application processes. This includes in-person meetings, open houses, yield events, phone and email conversations, and other venues as required.

This position is the lead for all state grant programs. Additionally, this position will provide administrative processing for federal verification, and institutional financial aid administration; and professional judgment of students’ financial aid applications; awarding of financial aid on behalf of the University- including special populations of students.

This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of customer service, remaining current on all regulations applicable to Federal and State financial aid programs, training staff, and assisting the office with compliance.
