The Faculty of Social Work (Fort Garry Campus) of the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time probationary at the rank of Assistant Professor. The role includes teaching, research, service, and the supervision of graduate students. The anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2024, or as soon as possible after that date. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Candidates must have or be near completion of a Ph.D. in Social Work or in a related field and have a social work degree. If the PhD has not been completed by the appointment date, the person may be appointed to a term position at the rank of Lecturer until satisfactory completion of their PhD. The candidate must be able to work in partnership with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and work collaboratively as a team member. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to and/or demonstrated record of working and researching collaboratively with Indigenous peoples and communities and fostering and enhancing connections with Indigenous organizations. The ideal candidate will be a creative and energetic individual with a demonstrated interest in advancing Indigenist, decolonizing social work, and guiding graduate and undergraduate students in their program.

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK based in INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGES PROGRAM
(Position # 30016)

The Faculty of Social Work of the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time Probationary (Tenure-track) or Tenured position (position #30016) at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Master of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledges Program. The anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2024, or as soon as possible after that date. Rank and starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates will hold or be close to completing a Ph.D. in Social Work or a related field, preferably also have a Master of Social Work degree, be able to work in partnership with Elders, and work collaboratively as a team member.

The Master of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledges (MSW-IK) is an innovative program that has been developed with strong and continuous input by members of the Indigenous communities in Manitoba. It is overseen by an Advisory Committee consisting of Elders from various locations in Manitoba and consists of 13 courses that are co-taught by Elders and academics with curriculum based in Indigenous knowledges and critical theories. Students choose to complete either a thesis or major project as part of their program. The first intake of students began the program in September 2016. The MSW-IK program is delivered at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry Campus, Winnipeg, Manitoba with Two Elders
