Interpreter services include, but are not limited to interviews, counseling, clas... ses, tutorials, meetings, scheduling, and extra-curricular activities, as approved by the supervisor. Provide accurate interpretation between deaf/hard of hearing and hearing individuals taking into consideration the cultural and linguistic differences. May assist University staff and/or supervisor as requested with special projects and assignments, provided the project/assignment does not interfere with the interpreter’s ability to provide interpreting/transliterating services. Perform related duties such as attending meetings, and conferences as appropriate or assigned by supervisor. May participate in the search and screen process of applicants for employment.

The ASL Interpreter Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in strengthening the development of qualified educational interpreters to better serve Virginia’s Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and Deaf Blind students. This is a full-time, restricted grant-supported position at Reynolds for up to three years, which supports the development of a state-wide infrastructure for pre-service and novice American Sign Language interpreters. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining open communications with grant partners and prioritizing tasks according to urgency. Ability to work flexible schedules on-site at Reynolds, on-location with partners, or remotely is required. The grant ends on 9/30/2027.

This position will also provide direct interpreting services for various State agencies which may include televised events. This position will be expected to perform consultation on interpreting, including, best practices in employment and hiring, roles and responsibilities, and the State law on interpreter qualification requirements and scopes of practice. CAS Interpreter and Mentors adhere to professional standards, best practices, and follow the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
