Expertise in AI ethics and policy are especially valued as is social systems intelligence and human centric AI.
Assistant Professor in Systems Science
SUNY Binghamton
The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (The State University of New York at Binghamton) invites applications for one faculty member, at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level, starting in Spring or Fall 2024. The position involves establishing theoretical and applied research in emerging areas in systems science as well as teaching at all levels from undergraduate courses to advanced graduate courses.

The Assistant Professor we are looking for is sought to start in Spring or Fall 2024 and will have advanced expertise in areas such as 1) Computational Social Science/Biomedical Complexity/Epidemiology and 2) Systems Science/Complex Systems/Network Science. Complex systems science has been particularly successful in building actionable models in social, organizational, and biomedical complexity, which leverage ML/AI/Statistical Inference but add explainability to the management of complex problems. It is expected that candidates applying for this role will pursue much broader applications including, but not limited to, Social Science/Networks, Organizational Science/Networks and Design, Biology, Medicine, and Mental/Public Health Modeling. Alternatively, the faculty candidate will pursue newer topics such as Complex Systems, Network Science, Network Design, or other emerging topics in the broader discipline of Systems Science. Candidates with experience in the broad area of computational intelligence are preferred. Qualified applicants in other emerging areas of the system science discipline may be considered.

Two Postdoctoral Fellowships in socioecological systems dynamics at Ohio State University
Ohio State University
The Health and Environment Modeling (HEALMOD) Initiative at OSU
HEALMOD is a newly-established interdisciplinary community of scholars dedicated to convergence research in the areas of human health and environmental sustainability. Co-administered by the Computational Epidemiology and Math/Statistics faculties at OSU’s College of Public Health, and the Sociology and Anthropology faculties focused on quantitative research, HEALMOD prioritizes quantitative analyses of eco-social determinants of health and coupled human-natural systems.

We are currently seeking candidates for up to two 2-year postdoctoral fellowships.
The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more major theoretical frameworks for linking social and environmental systems: coupled human-natural systems, eco-social determinants of health (including the human microbiome), complex adaptive systems, sustainability science, and/or co-evolutionary dynamics. Technical areas of interest include mathematical and statistical modeling, causal inference, agent-based modeling, network analysis, machine learning, and/or data melding and meta-data analysis.
These positions are open immediately and will remain so until suitable candidates are identified.
Start Date:
The position offers a flexible start date, with the anticipated commencement period ranging from January 1st, 2023, to January 1st, 2024.

Postdoctoral position in climate extremes and socio-political systems at University of Potsdam (Institute of Physics)
University of Potsdam
The Complexity Science research group at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a postdoctoral position for 2+1 years. Preferred starting date is 1 February 2024. Please, send in your application by 12 November 2023. The position is open until it has been filled.

We seek a candidate interested in one or both of the following areas:

Water extremes – Water extremes such as floods and droughts caused three quarters of all natural disasters in the 21st century, with dramatic impacts on societies. We are looking for a candidate interested in advancing Machine Learning approaches to identify signatures and drivers of extreme events in climate and society.

Economic inequality and political dynamics – The last decade has shown an alarming decline in democracy across the western world, including some of the most consolidated democracies. We are looking for a candidate interested in advancing analysis and modelling of large-scale economics and political science data with the aim of shedding light on the interactions and causal relations between political and economic indicators.

We seek candidates with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: physics / statistics / machine learning / complex systems.
