The Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Project Professional will be responsible for leading our waste characterizations, SB 1383 assessments and lid-flip projects in California, as well as providing report writing, data analysis and review, and outreach support for projects being conducted for private and public clients. This individual will possess and provide regulatory compliance knowledge and/or guidance. The SMM Project Professional will work with clients to improve the management and profitability of waste reduction, recycling, composting and special waste programs. Assignments will be conducted in an office setting and in the field.

Description:
The Environmental Education Specialist (EES) drives to schools throughout San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties to give class programs. Topics presented include Recycling, Vermicomposting, Water Conservation, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, and Marine Debris.

Hours / Days
Monday – Friday
As early as 7:00 am to as late as 4:30 pm

Qualifications
• Coursework in Environmental Studies or closely related field
• At least one year of relevant experience, volunteer or paid

Requirements
• Ability to present science-based topics to grades K-12
• Skills and knowledge to adjust presentations depending on classroom or environmental conditions
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work well with children
• Capacity to be a self-starter and work independently as needed
• Own reliable transportation with a good driving record
• Team-oriented work ethic
• Flexible weekly schedule
• Lift and carry 30 pounds for a distance of 50 feet

Project Associate
Nothing Wasted Consulting
Nothing Wasted Consulting is a sustainable consulting company that assists companies and cities in reducing their solid waste footprint. We consult on everything from property waste management to large city events and venues looking to divert waste away from landfills.

Our team is currently looking to expand by adding new team members to assist with our upcoming projects. These projects include SB1383 compliance for various waste generators (businesses, schools, etc.) located around the SF Bay Area, waste diversion rate reporting for MRFs, and waste management for small & large-scale in-person events. Anyone with a passion for working in a hands-on role in the sustainable waste management industry without wanting a full-time commitment would be an ideal fit.

All prospective team members must be comfortable sorting through organics (compost), recycling, and landfill (trash) piles, and be able to stand for long hours. Commuting to various locations around the SF Bay Area (and occasionally farther) is required. Housing stipends will be provided if the project location requires an unusually long commute. Waste sorting training will be provided on-site by current team members. The majority of work will be done on-site at these various locations, though occasionally some projects will allow for some remote work. Customer service & data entry skills are also desired for certain technical assistance projects, though they are not required.

This position will perform varied tasks required to deliver a successful mattress recycling program to all California residents. The program will achieve a variety of performance goals including the development of a comprehensive collection network in territory that provides convenient no-cost mattress recycling for residents and businesses. This is a remote position, however applicants must reside in Northern California with a preference for Sacramento or the San Francisco Bay Area. Ideal applicants will have experience working with California’s solid waste and recycling community.
