Data Analyst
ActBlue
The Marketing Team is responsible for managing ActBlue’s brand and all external communications. At ActBlue, we are the public advocates for small-dollar donors. We are looking to hire a Data Analyst to join our Marketing Team and fill a specific role as an in-house data journalist, working to tell the story of grassroots donors. Technical Co-Founder | Hive: The Future of Science
Hive Science
We want diverse perspective at the table as we construct the future of scientific data:

The widespread irreproducibility in biomedical science is making scientific ‘experts’ obsolete. Hive leverages an innovative model to extract information from the scientific literature on a large-scale while providing confidence metrics that directly assess reproducibility of scientific findings. Hive offers executives, investors, and researchers the extraordinary ability to develop their expertise on any topic in biomedicine within a short period of time.

The scientific literature suffers from a severe quality problem. Several independent analyses in the pharmaceutical industry estimated that only 15% of all scientific findings can be independently reproduced. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that there are 26 million biomedical papers already published. This number is increasing exponentially with more than 1.2 million new papers published in 2016 alone. This historical record is set to be broken in 2019.

Given that the biomedical literature is foundational in the pharmaceutical industry, the irreproducibility problem leads to high failure rates in the biotechnology sector, and inefficient R&D which wastes billions of dollars of industrial spending. Addressing the uncertainty that irreproducibility introduces into decision-making in the pharmaceutical industry will greatly improve success rate in drug development.

Hive is a platform offering targeted analytical solutions to the pharmaceutical industry through timely and unbiased evaluation of scientific papers on a large-scale using an analytical approach that quantifies reproducibility. We extract high-resolution scientific observations from peer-reviewed articles using domain experts and then evaluate it using our propitiatory analytics which can generate replication-based confidence metrics for each finding.

As a data science intern, you would work closely with our research team on building, implementing, and evaluating predictive models. Day to day work would consist of collecting and organizing different datasets, deriving summary statistics of those datasets, and helping to implement machine learning models. Beyond the data, you would need to explore the real world context that underpins our work, including existing social policies to guide the research efforts, and you might also help prepare work products for dissemination (report formatting and writing). This internship is a full-time opportunity during the summer (generally 10 weeks), and it is a great opportunity to see how predictive analytics impact public policy, to gain a deeper understating of policy research, and to develop research skills. Please email edunn@uchicago.edu with questions or to apply.

Senior Climate Organizer
Corporate Accountability
The take-away
Ready to take on some of the most powerful forces in our society—including the fossil fuel industry? We’re looking for a senior organizer on our climate campaign to join a fierce, smart team challenging global corporations, holding them accountable, and creating a world where all people can thrive.

Why you’ll love coming to work every day
You’ll help change the world. You’ll be joining an organization that’s not satisfied with the world as it is—and has a vision for how it should be. Add a 40-year track record of winning campaigns and ambitious plans to have an even bigger impact, and you’ve got a powerful force to be reckoned with.

You’ll work with awesome people. Join a team of seasoned, kind, determined, optimistic, and solutions-oriented folks. We work hard, celebrate victories large and small, and always have each other’s backs.

You’ll be a part of fearless and winning campaigns. When your quest is ending corporate abuse, you can’t be afraid to name names and stick to your guns. For 40 years, we’ve been exposing and challenging the abuses of the likes of Nestlé, Exxon Mobil, Philip Morris International, McDonald’s, Dow Chemical, and more. We don’t back down, and we run campaigns until we win.

You can take on big responsibilities as you go. You’ll thrive here as you develop new skills, tackle new challenges, learn, and grow. We pay lots of attention to building staff leadership, and we provide support and training to help you become the best leader you can be.

You’ll be part of an organization committed to advancing racial equity and transforming systems of oppression. We are deeply committed to prioritizing the leadership of those who bear the brunt of corporate abuse: women, people of color, low-income people, people in the Global South, and LGBTQ folks around the world. Our unique culture has been fostered by a long history of women at the helm. We know we are stronger when the organization reflects the vision of the world we’re building
