Assistant Professor of English, African American Literature
Southwestern University Southwestern University’s English Department invites applications for a tenure-track position specializing in African American literature and culture in any period. Candidates who... specialize in transatlantic Black studies are particularly welcome. Desired secondary areas of teaching expertise include creative writing in any genre and film studies. PhD must be in hand by August 2025.
Southwestern seeks candidates with a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates and pursuing scholarship in a liberal arts college. The successful applicant will teach a broad range of courses, including introductory surveys of American Literature and upper-level seminars in areas of research specialization, and will rotate required courses with other department members. These include: First-Year Seminar, Literary Methods, Literary Theory, and the senior Capstone. Our new colleague will also be able to offer courses that can contribute to our vibrant, interdisciplinary Race and Ethnicity Studies program and other interdisciplinary programs such as Feminist Studies, International Studies, and Latin American and Border Studies, as appropriate.
The teaching load is 3/2. Southwestern is proud to support the research programs of its faculty, offering a sabbatical opportunity for all pre-tenure faculty, as well as competitive annual funding for conference travel and summer archival research. Campus-wide responsibilities include advising students and university service.

The D... HC incorporates technological infrastructure, research tools, instructional programming, and interdisciplinary expertise to a centralized resource that facilitates high-capacity production and publishing of digital humanities (DH) research at UH. The DHC engages and credentials diverse communities of scholars in the design and production of high-impact digital research and pedagogy. It supports internally and externally funded DH projects as well as individuals and teams in the process of seeking funding.
The Digital Humanities Technologist coordinates and supports the implementation, scaling, and evolution of the DHC’s Micro-credentialing in the Digital Humanities program. This program encompasses a scaffolded set of training experiences that guides cohorts of UH faculty, students, and staff through sets of core competencies aimed at producing high-quality DH projects, moving from ideation to project and process design, to funding and larger-scale project management, while integrating technologies and fostering self-confidence and autonomous production. The position also facilitates technology adoption in coursework and scholarship within academic departments and programs with a consideration toward the ongoing needs for storing, accessing, computing, and analyzing large data sets in various disciplines.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The successful candidate must have expertise in several of the following areas: methods for image and object-based digital humanities, distant viewing, computer-assisted techniques and analytical approaches for researching visual culture, hermeneutics of digital humanities, digitalization of cultural heritage, software development, and infrastructures for visual computing. The successful candidate will have a track record in the acquisition of third-party funding and an excellent research profile, demonstrated with internationally visible publications and an established research network. Experience in interdisciplinary collaborative research is desirable, and your research must tie in with the key research priorities at FAU and the faculty.
