This is primarily an internal-facing leadership role and ensures effective reporting, grant renewals, drafting fundraising proposals, robust and timely communication with current and prospective funders, planning and effective management of funder briefings and regular funder engagement and communications, developing high-quality fundraising collateral, accelerating and diversifying our prospect pipeline and core base of funders, and ensuring accurate and timely revenue projections.
Build and Manage Development Systems and Processes That Support Effective Fundraising.
Develop new prospect and renewal strategies and work plans, and lead both development staff and cross-team collaboration to ensure execution.
Lead, manage, and build the capacity of the development team  to ensure success with our multi-year fundraising goals.
A minimum of 10 years of development (fundraising) experience and track record of success prospecting and closing on six-figure grants, as well as stewarding consultative and advising roles of increasing responsibility in a similarly complex organization.
Experience working for a funding intermediary and in both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) fundraising is strongly preferred, although not required.

Manage a portfolio of philanthropic partnerships representing a mix of existing and new/prospective funding partners for the Equity Fund’s c3 and the Action Fund’s C4. 
Manage a fundraising portfolio that may include charitable institutions, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals
5+ years of professional experience in fundraising and development, with demonstrated expertise in funder portfolio management and strengths in grant writing and strategic case development. 
Proven ability to help develop intense cultivation, engagement, and learning opportunities for prospective and current funders, working in partnership with staff and leadership.
Knowledge of philanthropy for climate/clean energy and racial and economic justice preferred.

Position Summary:
The Controller is a key role in the Finance Department directly responsible for operating
and maintaining the financial books of record of the VCF. By working closely with the Vice
President for Finance, the Controller is responsible for developing and maintaining
accurate and timely financial records and reporting in compliance with GAAP. This
includes recording financial information in the accounting system for various funds,
payroll, accounts payable, and revenue recognition in the operating funds. The Controller
organizes and leads the preparation and oversight of the annual audit and tax return. This
position works closely with leadership and other department managers to develop the
annual budget and provide regular reporting on performance against budget. The
Controller develops reports and analyses to support the financial reporting needs of the
foundation.
As a leadership position in the VCF, the Controller role requires critical thinking skills and a
growth mindset.

Position Responsibilities: Work with grantee partners to develop strategies to build power and advance equitable climate policies. Conduct research and analysis of emerging opportunities, the needs of the field, and alignment with allied funders, grantees and potential grantees. Lead the implementation of the grantmaking strategy in select states. Identify and coordinate state activities with allied funders, consultants, and national and state-level partners. Cultivate relationships with organizations, the state thought leaders, experts, grantee partners and funders. Communicate with and convene organizations, as needed, to facilitate strong partnerships between and among organizations. Support fund development for the Equity Fund by cultivating relationships with funders, writing proposals, managing program and financial reporting.
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in related fields, such as community organizing, racial and economic justice, climate change/clean energy policy or campaigns, and philanthropy. Experience with campaign and strategy developmement. Experience in the grantmaking process (either as a funder or applicant), program development, and fundraising. Knowledge of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) legal compliance a plus.Experience with fundraising and board management a plus.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Development and Stewardship

Assess prospects’ philanthropic preferences and goals to inform the design and improvement of KZCF’s products, services, and marketing outreach collateral.
