Community Outreach Assistant for an Early Literacy Program
University of Arizona Cooperative Extension
The Community Outreach Assistant will work with a team from University of Arizona Cooperative Extension to develop, promote, and deliver a multi-component, culturally responsive, early literacy program throughout four southern Navajo Nation communities: Nahata Dziil Commission Governance (Sanders, AZ); Houck; Wide Ruins; and Pine Springs (Oak Springs). The outreach assistant will work with families with young children (birth to 6) to help promote early literacy skills through interactive community events and parent education classes. Also, the incumbent will prepare materials for media sources such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, websites, and printed sources. They will also support the collection of evaluation measures, attend weekly zoom meetings, complete weekly reporting forms, and work with a community advisory board. This position is a part time position (20 hours /week) and will require weekly travel to the Sanders, AZ area.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
• Ability to drive according to the University’s Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Navajo (Diné) language and culture.
• Experience working with diverse communities, especially tribal communities.
• Experience working with families with young children and comfortability interacting with young children.
• Experience creating community collaborations and organizing programming with multiple organizations.

Job Title: Special Education Teacher
SUMMARY: Develops and implements a curriculum program consistent with district educational goals and objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assesses student needs and develops, implements and evaluates daily lesson plans for students to include scheduled activities and materials. Modifies instruction of program to meet the needs of each child.
Plans instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon student need and established curriculum. Implements instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
Evaluates written materials to include written assignments and tests. Analyzes and evaluates student progress and course curriculum.
Evaluates the performance of students regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and makes necessary provisions to meet learning needs. Ensures parents and students are informed of methods of evaluation utilized in the classroom. Informs parents of student progress. Advises parents of instructional methods that may assist student. Informs parents of school activities.
Collaborates with specialists to assist students.
May monitor the activities of a teacher assistant and classroom volunteers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will supervise students.

Reach Out and Read Regional Coordinator - Navajo Nation Region

POSITION SUMMARY
Although this role involves remote work, the staff member must reside within Navajo Nation, as there are frequent in-person meetings in the area.
As a full-time staff member of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AzAAP), this position provides daily support for the implementation, growth, and awareness of the Reach Out and Read Arizona program (RORAZ) within the community and pediatric practices. This position will cover sites in Navajo Region with additional telecommuting responsibilities to meet with Phoenix-based AzAAP staff.
*PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
· Supports RORAZ program sites, both virtually and in-person, to ensure program quality and fidelity in implementation.
· Participates in monthly Reach Out and Read National Center meetings, as well as meetings with community partners and the RORAZ team.
· Provides on-going quality monitoring and support through site visits and reports, both online and in writing.
· Facilitates research and coordinates book donation opportunities with local organizations.
· Assists Reach Out and Read Arizona program sites with maintaining an adequate book inventory and developing accurate book distribution tracking systems.
· Develops and maintains relationships and collaborative efforts with community organizations.
· Conducts parent and caregiver outreach activities through community fairs and exhibitions in community settings or through partner organizations.
· Maintains accurate records for grant tracking and reporting.
