Postdoctoral fellowship in complex data analysis of the environmental sustainability and nutritional health outcomes of global food systems
CNRS - Geology Lab at ENS Main missions : The key research objectives for the selected candidate are listed below, with some flexibility to explore further specific aspect(s) depending on the candidate’... s skills and interests: 1 analysis of the interactions across metrics of environmental sustainability and nutrition security of food worldwide, from the consumption and production perspectives 2 analysis of complex systems dynamics
Both objectives build upon work from the team, specifically an integrated indicator of environmental sustainability and nutrition security of food worldwide. This covers impacts of crop and livestock production worldwide on climate change via greenhouse gas emissions; water stress via withdrawals from soil, surface water and groundwater for irrigation; and both aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity via the use of farming inputs (fertilisers) and land, respectively. Post-docs and PhD on land use impacts of solar and wind energy
UCLouvain Prof. Eric Lambin seeks post-doctoral researchers and a PhD students for his new ERC Advanced Grant on “Land use implications of the renewable energy transition”. The successful c... andidates will conduct innovative research on the geographic, economic, social and policy factors that constrain the spatial expansion of solar and wind energy in various geographic contexts in Europe. The research project aims to understand land use decisions by key stakeholders regarding the deployment of solar and wind energy production in rural and urban landscapes. The ultimate goal is to develop a realistic representation of feasible and sustainable pathways to accomplish a renewable energy transition, accounting for various trade-offs.
The research will include geospatial analyses, interviews of key stakeholders, and scenario analyses. One of the postdocs will develop a spatially-explicit multi-agent simulation model. This position requires excellent skills in system thinking and analysis of spatial and socio-economic data. It will include field interviews with local land managers in Belgium, Portugal and/or the Western Alps.
