Middle and Upper School Counselor
The Walker School The Walker School is conducting a search for a dynamic school counselor who is passionate about supporting the social-emotional needs of 6th-12th grade students. *The role does not include college counseling and focuses solely on SEL/counseling support. The position begins in December 2021 or January 2022.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Provide individual school counseling services primarily to 6th through 12th-grade students.
Respond to crises in tandem with other school personnel and have extensive knowledge of proper protocols and best practices for addressing mental health issues with high and middle school students.
Work with the other MS/US counselor, Grade Level Deans, and Learning Specialist on the Student Support Team (SST) that meets regularly to monitor the academic and social-emotional progress of students in each grade level
Coordinate and implement Health and Wellness initiatives for MS/US students and parent education programs.
Assist all students new to the MS/US's in their transition with particular emphasis on students new to Walker
Provide resources and guidance for faculty, administration, and parents to enhance their effectiveness in supporting students
Consult with other school support personnel and mental health professionals to assess and refer students
Teach 1 – 1.5 classes that align with priorities of the counseling position (e.g., peer leadership program, health, and wellness)
Maintain records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions
Maintain and respect the confidentiality of students and school personnel while maintaining the safety and welfare of all students and staff
Participate in parent/teacher conferences as needed
Serve alongside the Grade Level Deans, Assistant Heads of Upper and Middle Schools, and Heads of Upper and Middle Schools on the Upper School Administrative Team
