Cardiovascular epidemiologist

The Department of Population Health Sciences (DPHS) within the Geisinger Research Institute is growing and seeks to recruit a cardiovascular epidemiologist faculty member. The DPHS is embedded in the Geisinger health system, a large integrated health system in Pennsylvania, and the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. The DPHS faculty includes epidemiologists, biostatisticians, behavior scientists, health economists, and clinician researchers. Faculty have access to vast data resources, including longitudinal electronic medical record (EMR) data spanning more than 25 years, claims, genomic, and environmental data. The Department collaborates closely with Geisinger’s Heart and Vascular Institute (GHVI), a diverse and busy clinical venture that directly cares for patients in North and Central PA. DPHS and GHVI aim to work closely to solve many of the most complex population health challenges that our health system faces.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, MD). The position is open rank; however, priority is given to associate and full professor levels. Experience in use and analysis of EMR data is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, either through independent or collaborative projects, and provide service to the health system and their profession. Appointment at higher levels must show a record of extramural grant funding as a Principal or Co-Investigator and publication of peer-reviewed research.

The Department collaborates closely with Geisinger Health Plan, a health insurance company in Pennsylvania.

Expertise in the following areas of research is also preferred: access to health care and the role of insurance coverage; health outcomes including the effects of provider payments and delivery system reforms on health care costs and quality. Candidates should also have demonstrated capabilities in program evaluation, qualitative, and mixed method studies.
