Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate studio and lecture courses, in at least two of the following areas: design foundations/fundamentals; interior materials (e.g., properties, selection, specification, installation); residential design; commercial design; hospitality design; and healthcare/health design
Work with program coordinator and faculty team to maintain CIDA-accredited status
Productively engage in a program of research and/or creative scholarship with output in publications and/or exhibitions of work
Participate in curriculum development, accreditation, and marketing of undergraduate and graduate programs
Direct and serve on graduate advising committees
Seek internal/external grant opportunities
Provide service to the department, college, and university
Be actively involved with industry and/or relevant professional associations

The successful applicant will have the following:

A minimum of a Master’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture (or related area). Preference will be given to candidates with an academic credential in Interior Design.

A minimum of 5 years experience in professional interior design practice (or related field).

Professional knowledge of, and experience with, interior design theory, colour and design, material specification, lighting, building codes, sustainable design, and a basic understanding of interior building systems.

Experience and familiarity across multiple areas of practice, including a broad range of project types and scales, and the ability to apply design knowledge to classroom and studio environments.

A demonstrated passion for design and a keen interest in engaging with students, colleagues and practitioners.

NCIDQ certification or the ability to achieve it within the first year of employment.

Currency and competency in relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, REVIT, and SketchUp.

In addition, any of the following would be assets:

Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Certification in LEED AP and/or WELL Building Standards.

Experience in curriculum development, pedagogy and assessment (including creating lectures, learning activities and assignments).

Demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA).

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with non-Western design traditions, Indigenous ways of understanding space and land, and/or design for social agency.

Responsibilities of the position include:
Teaches undergraduate courses at all levels of the Interior Design program. Oversees the program accreditation processes and reviews and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Maintains scholarly/creative activities in interior design or related fields of study. Provides program, department, college, university, and professional service.

A minimum of three years of full-time professional design practice experience is required. NCIDQ certification is required or must be completed within the first year of employment. Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals or creative scholarship equivalent.

Applicants must have a Masters degree or Ph.D. in Interior Design or a closely related field. (i.e., Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental Design, or closely related field)
