Wastewater Treatment Operator

Overview
Responsible for operating the biological-activated sludge and storm water waste treatment system. The Operator controls machinery that converts wastewater into a form that's safe to release into the environment.

Qualifications
High School diploma
18 months of experience
Must obtain a Class K license within 6 months of hire
Complete wastewater operations course

Responsibilities
Control equipment and monitor processes that remove or destroy harmful materials, chemicals, and microorganisms from wastewater. Operate and maintain the pumps and motors that move water and wastewater through filtration systems.
Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter readings, gauge readings, and test results to determine process requirements and adjustments. Adjust feed rates of chemicals used in conditioning sludge to provide optimum production
Tests water samples for plant efficiency and reports as required. Run tests to make sure that the processes are working correctly. Take samples and run tests to determine the quality of the water being produced. Monitor indicators and make adjustments as necessary.
Make adjustments the amount of chemicals being added to the water. Fix chemical leaks and oxygen deficiencies.
Perform maintenance on plant equipment (DAF system). Read meters and gauges to make sure that plant equipment is working properly. Use systems to monitor plant processes.
Keep records of water quality and other indicators. Keep records that document compliance.
Plan emergency reaction protocols.
