NASA Loads and Dynamics Technical Discipline Team Summer Internship
NASA
Intern with the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) and contribute to cutting-edge projects impacting real-world problems and mission success. The NESC consists of disciplin... e experts in a variety of fields to perform value-added independent testing, analysis, and assessments of NASA’s high-risk projects to ensure mission success. The Loads and Dynamics (L&D) Technical Discipline Team (TDT) focuses on the vibration response of a structure subjected to dynamic (time varying) forces in its operational environment. This internship will focus on providing logistical support for the L&D TDT and technical assistance for on-going assessments with a focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML & AI). Tasks include:
- Support NESC assessments in topics that may include but are not limited to: ML & AI, vibroacoustics, dynamic loads, vibration control. Prepare findings from reviews and technical analysis for presentation in reports and briefings.
- Assist in knowledge capture exercises for the loads and dynamics discipline.
- Organize discipline enhancement activities in pertinent structural dynamics / ML & AI topics including loads and vibration, vibroacoustics, shock and impact, and tests, tools, and methods

This internship is being offered through NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Summer Internship Program. Interested applicants should apply through JPL at https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/internships/apply/jpl-summer-internship-program/ and send an email to dexter.johnson@nasa.gov, john.bell@nasa.gov and alexander.w.chin@nasa.gov.

Simulation Engineer - Noise & Vibration
Apple Inc.
An N&V Simulation Engineer on the Noise & Vibration team will analyze dynamic and acoustic behaviors from components to product. This person will also perform tests and/or...  work with test engineers on experimental/simulation correlation study and design solutions for related products to meet noise and vibration specifications. Root-cause identification of issues during product development along with improvement suggestions at all phases will be vital. A large part of this role involves educating multi-functional teams in your own area of expertise, to implement known standard methodologies and suggest DOEs for performance improvement. Our team needs to work closely with multi-functional teams across Apple in problem-solving.

Graduate Research Assistant (PhD Student)
Clemson University
Dr. Russcher’s research group is recrui ng Ph.D. students in the Mechanical Engineering program
at Clemson University starting in Fall 2025. Our research group is dedicated to ... the development, applica on and dissemina on of model validation and uncertainty quantification (MVUQ) techniques. Our main emphasis is in structural dynamics and solid mechanics applications with a focus on structural mechanics problems coupled with other domains. Funding for our research is provided by several federal agencies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), as well as industry organiza ons and partners. Our focus directly relates to the goals of the Society of
Experimental Mechanics (SEM) model validation and uncertainty quantification (MVUQ) technical division and ASME Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ) technical community.
Students who are U.S. citizens are encouraged to apply for this research assistantship. The assistantship will cover the tui on fees, insurance subsidy, monthly s pend, and travel expenses.
Graduate students recruited under this assistantship will have the opportunity to complete summer internships or extended visits at U.S. DOE national laboratories and collaborate with DOE scientists. Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file containing their curriculum vitae (CV), personal statement, and unofficial transcripts (B.S. and M.S.) to malkayy@clemson.edu.
Students’ eligibility for this assistantship depends on their acceptance and enrollment as a full‐time graduate student (i.e., nine credits or more) in the Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering.
For further informa on or inquiries, please contact Dr. Malek Alkayyali (malkayy@clemson.edu).
