Postdoc for iCODE project, a tutoring system for source code comprehension (up to 3 years)

The successful candidate for this position will have the chance to conduct state-of-the-art research and development on topics related to dialogue-based tutoring system, natural language processing, and cognitive science. Specifically, the position is for the newly funded project iCODE: Adaptive Training of Students’ Code Comprehension Processes whose goal is to develop and investigate a novel education technology iCODE (improve source CODE comprehension) that targets code comprehension, a critical skill for both learners and professionals

Job responsibilities include among others the following: participate in all aspects of a large-scale educational technology with an emphasis on research, development, and implementation; lead the research, design, and implementation of various components of a dialogue-based tutoring systems including but not limited to dialogue manager, semantic interpreter, question generator, student model, and domain model; help with the design, implementation, and data analysis of various experiments needed to fulfill the mission of the project; interact with members of the project team, supervise graduate students, publication and presentation; evaluate, install, and maintain software packages; and administer the computing infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically-oriented post-doc researcher to make an impact in exciting new research, in the areas of gender studies, digital learning games, and intelligent tutors. The two research projects the post-doc will work on involve, first, studying gender effects in the context of digital learning games for middle school mathematics and, second, studying affect and cognitive skills while students work with an intelligent tutor for high school chemistry.

Seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on Educational Data Mining projects for computer programming education, with an emphasis on hints and feedback generation (to teachers as well as learners).
