Postdoctoral researcher for predictive and prescriptive process monitoring
KU Leuven
The Research Centre for Information Systems Engineering (LIRIS) at the Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven, is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in the domain of process analytics. The position is offered in the context of a broader research proposal on predictive process monitoring with a focus on (among others) process model forecasting and process- and event log-wide feature engineering for predictive and prescriptive purposes. Candidates ideally have recently obtained their PhD in the wider area of process mining and machine learning with a focus on building predictive and/or prescriptive models using state-of-the-art models including deep learning models such as LSTMs, GNNs, GANs, and reinforcement learning algorithms.

Responsibilities
-Perform class-leading research in predictive and/or prescriptive process monitoring.
-Teach possibly 1 course of up to 6 ECTS.
-Assist in the guidance of 2-3 PhD candidates on a similar topic.
-Lead or support grant writing for additional (postdoc) funding proposals.
-Supervise 4-6 MSc dissertations per academic year in the field of Information Systems Engineering and Information Management.

Profile
You have or will have obtained (close to the starting date) a PhD in Information Systems Engineering/Informatics/Computer Science/Machine Learning/Statistics or a related discipline with a focus on process analytics, preferably with a focus on building predictive and/or prescriptive models.
You have a mature publication track record with exposure in top journals within the field of process analytics and in conference proceedings of leading outlets including CAiSE, BPM, ICPM, and more.
You might have some experience in project proposal writing.
You have experience in guiding MSc students.
You are fluent in English (written/spoken) and have strong communication and presentation skills.

Professor in Information Systems Engineering (all ranks considered)
KU Leuven
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the KU Leuven has a vacancy for a full-time academic position in the field of Information Systems Engineering. The vacancy is open to both junior and senior researchers. PhD students in the final phase of their studies may also apply.

You have a PhD (or obtain it before September 1st, 2024) in Economics or Business with an emphasis on information systems engineering or a PhD in a related domain (e.g., computer science, business information systems, industrial management, information management, …) with evidence of expertise in this field of research.

Your research area is "information systems engineering", where the "engineering" component is clearly present. This "engineering" component should not be purely technical, but also incorporates the relationship of information systems with their users (individuals or organizations). Possible spearhead domains for which there is a particular interest are the domains of digital twins, blockchain technology, technology within healthcare, cybersecurity and digital platforms, or other domains that potentially connect with various domains in
which LIRIS is already doing research: simulation, process/conceptual modelling, IoT, analytics, IS engineering, etc. As described above, for each of these topics, the candidate should pay attention to both the engineering aspect and the relationship with individuals and organizations.

For more information please contact Prof. dr. Monique Snoeck, chair of the search committee, mail: monique.snoeck@kuleuven.be or Prof. dr. Wilfried Lemahieu, dean, Faculty of Economics and Business, mail: wilfried.lemahieu@kuleuven.be.

PhD. Position on Optimization of Health-care Processes
University of Padua
I am collecting expressions of interest to become a Ph.D. student on the Optimization of Hospital's Healthcare Procedures. This project is in collaboration with the universities of Pisa and Bergamo, and some Italian hospitals.
The project focuses on developing techniques for the analysis of transactional data from the information systems of multiple hospital.
The ultimate goal is to be able to improve the procedures at these hospitals, thus treating the patients more promptly, at lower costs and with shorter waiting times.
Traditionally, the optimization is only based on the subjectivity of the feedback of the process actors, thereby ignoring the process transactional data. As a result, processes are optimized “on paper”, and not in reality. The project aims at an effective optimization, putting together data and process actor’s feedback, combining techniques from Machine Learning, AI and Process Mining.

If you are selected, you will start the project in January 2024 and complete in December 2026 (three years). You will join the BMCS Ph.D. program at University of Padua, which promotes research at the interplay between Computer and Social Science.

As a PhD. student, you are expected to:

1) Conduct research on the topics of the Ph.D. project and develop accordant software prototypes;

2) Publish papers to important international conferences and attend those conferences world-wide (ca. 2 times per year);

3) Participate into winter/summer schools to strenghten your background

You will join my research group, which consists of four more Ph.D. students, and two pre-doctoral researchers.

If interested, please send me an email where you motivate why you are interested to enroll yourself in the project (a couple of paragraphs of at least 250 words in the email's body is sufficient), and
also attach an up-to-date curriculum vitae.
