Research associate
Auburn University
The Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, Civil Engineering Department, is seeking a laboratory technician at the Research Associate I or II level (commensurate with qualifications). A minimum BS degree in chemistry, environmental engineering, or related field is required. Higher degrees (MS and/or PhD) and prior experience in maintaining and operating chemistry labs are highly desired. The incumbent will primarily assist with the safety management, routine operation, and maintenance of the environmental engineering labs following relevant policies, procedures, regulations and laws. Must have working knowledge of equipment, materials and processes related to typical environmental engineering lab/facility operations, including procedures for observation, documentation and collection, analysis and presentation of data, and knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis related to lab operations. Experience in using and maintaining analytical instrumentation common to environmental engineering chemistry laboratories preferred, including ion chromatography (IC), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), total organic analyzer (TOC), dynamic light scattering (DLS), Real-time polymerase chain reaction (QPCR), etc.
To apply, please enroll using the Auburn University Online Employment System (https://AUemployment.com) and utilize the attachment feature to attach the following: cover letter stating the relevant qualifications, resume, and two professional references. Only complete applications will be considered.

Postdoctoral scholar in multiphase reactive transport modeling
BRGM (French Geological Survey)
BRGM (French Geological Survey) is looking for a post-doctoral research fellow to develop multi-scale multi-phase flow reactive models.

We develop an hybrid-scale simulator to simulate multiphase flows in reactive porous systems with application to geological storage and exploitation of sub-surface reservoirs. The simulation framework has the ability to solve problems both at the pore-scale (Digital Rock Physics) and at the continuum-scale (Reservoir Simulations), and also at the scale of an individual fracture. Comprehensive reaction networks are handled by state-of-the-art geochemical packages. The selected candidate will join the modeling team and strengthen the code development, validation and benchmarking efforts. He/she will bring original contributions to optimize the numerical coupling between flow and geochemistry, and upscale the simulation results all the way from the pore to the reservoir-scale.

The post-doctoral fellow will join a network of leading-edge national research institutions including CNRS (French National Research Center), ISTO (Institut des Sciences de la Terre d’Orléans) and UPPA (Université de Pau et Pays de l’Adour), and international collaborations including Berkeley Lab.

We are looking for a candidate having a recent Ph.D. with a strong background in porous media modeling at different scales of interest, multiphase flow, and geochemistry. Good programming skills with fluency in C++ is expected. Knowledge of OpenFOAM is a plus.

To apply please contact Dr. Cyprien Soulaine at c.soulaine@brgm.fr and/or meet me at the conference
PhD position Multi-scale Modeling of Flow in Fractured Reservoirs
Herriot Watt University
The internationally renowned Carbonate Reservoir Group at Heriot-Watt University (http://carbonated.hw.ac.uk) is looking for an outstanding young engineer, physicist, or mathematician with strong skills in mathematical modelling and numerical computation to join them and work on a PhD project on multi-scale upscaling of fractured reservoirs. The project will be fully funded for three years and 4 months by a major international oil company including a 4 month placement at their premises. It has the key aim to develop novel upscaling/averaging procedures, using both theoretical and numerical studies, to build more reliable models for naturally fractured reservoirs that capture the fundamental flow processes pertinent to fractured geological formations more reliably.

This PhD project is available for applicants from the UK, EU and overseas. The successful applicant should hold an outstanding honours degree or equivalent in a related engineering or natural science discipline, have exceptional mathematical and numerate skills, possess a strong working knowledge in a programming language, and display excellent communication skills. The ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team is highly desirable. A background in reservoir engineering and/or geosciences is beneficial but not essential for this position.

The successful applicant will join a the Carbonate Reservoir Group, a vibrant, interdisciplinary, and successful research team where (s)he will work under the supervision of Dr Florian Doster and Prof Sebastian Geiger. The project will be based at the Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh (https://www.hw.ac.uk/schools/energy-geoscience-infrastructure-society/research/ipe.htm) IPE is an internationally leading centre of excellence in petroleum engineering and petroleum geosciences teaching, training and research, comprising over 40 academic staff, 20 postdoctoral researchers, and 100 PhD students.
