Iowa State University’s Student Counseling Services (SCS) seeks a Clinical Therapist to provide direct client care to a dynamic and diverse student population. The Clinical Therapist provides psychological services to assist students in attaining their educational, academic, and personal goals. These services include individual assessment and counseling; crisis service system support; group counseling or workshop facilitation; and psycho-educational and outreach programming to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families. Candidates will also be expected to work closely with the varying level of student trainees in the counseling center.
The successful candidate will be expected to function as a team player and be able to assess, manage, and ensure high quality mental health counseling. Duties • Provides individual, couples, career, and group psychotherapy to students. • Assesses client needs through interviews, tests, and observations. • Conducts psychological, substance abuse, and eating disorder assessments. • Attends to and evaluates the client’s report of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. • Provides treatment through psychotherapy and other resources. • Writes notes and reports on progress. • Conducts intake interviews of clients. • Assesses client needs and make appropriate referrals to other professionals and community resources. • Provides intervention during client crisis. • Coordinates a program area as assigned. • Researches and develops educational and prevention presentations. • Provides crisis coverage on a regular rotation of staff.
