VA Boston Women's Mental Health Fellowship
National Center for PTSD at VA Boston HCS
The VA Boston Healthcare System is accepting applications for a two-year research fellowship in women’s mental health to begin in August or September 2019.  The primary objective of this training program is to produce clinical researchers who are qualified to function as independent clinician investigators in women’s mental health, with a particular focus on the scientific study of stress, trauma, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  The fellowship represents one track within an interdisciplinary Advanced Fellowship in Women’s Health, is closely affiliated with the Boston University School of Medicine and is housed within the Women’s Health Sciences Division of the National Center for PTSD (WHSD-NCPTSD). Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects conducted by program faculty, initiate independent research projects, conduct secondary analyses on existing data sets, prepare applications to federal and other funding agencies for research support, and provide direct clinical services to patients under the guidance of a clinical supervisor.

First consideration will be given to applications received by December 15, 2018. Graduate training in clinical or counseling psychology is preferred, but applications are welcome from candidates in related fields.  Applicants must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree prior to starting the program. We are seeking a Clinical Director (Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology) to develop and implement a comprehensive array of trauma-informed, evidence-based assessment and therapy services for children birth to 18 with child welfare involvement. The Clinical Director will carry a clinical caseload, lead an interdisciplinary team of treatment providers, supervise Masters-level clinicians, contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based intervention practices, serve on the organization’s trauma-informed workgroup/implementation team, and collaborate with JHACH on program evaluation and research. The Clinical Director will be responsible for providing vision and leadership to ensure quality trauma-informed services and provisions for all clients.

This position requires a Doctorate in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and current Florida Psychologist License (or license eligibility in the state of Florida).  The ideal candidate will have considerable experience providing evidence-based, trauma-informed assessment and intervention services, as well as advanced training and/or certification in evidence-based trauma interventions (e.g., TF-CBT, ARC, PCIT, SPARCS, etc.).

The San Diego VA is accepting applications for a two-year clinical research fellow in the Center of Excellence in Stress and Mental Health (CESAMH) to begin in August of 2019. There is a specific opening for clinical research on Sleep and PTSD treatments as well as general openings within the program.

CESAMH’s scope of research ranges from psychophysiology and psychosocial interventions and their implementation for PTSD, sleep, and substance abuse disorders. With this strength in multidisciplinary, translational research, CESAMH provides an ideal setting in which to train talented physicians and psychologists to become highly productive clinical researchers and leaders. Fellows devote the majority of their time to patient oriented research and education activities and 25% to direct patient clinical care. Clinical or Counseling Psychologists. UCF RESTORES, under the direction of Deborah C. Beidel, PhD, ABPP, is initiating a four- year, multi-center randomized controlled trial comparing compressed and standard-length behavioral treatments for active duty personnel with PTSD. This trial will be conducted at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Virginia, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune (Jacksonville, North Carolina) and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Augusta Georgia. We are seeking two psychologists at each site. Psychologists will be trained in all study procedures and be responsible for all aspects of the treatment program including diagnostic assessments, training and collection of sleep actigraphy, implementing individual and group treatments (including the use of virtual reality exposure therapy) and conducting follow-up assessments. For those who are interested, there will be opportunities to contribute to the scientific papers and presentations that will emerge from this project.

Postdoctoral Residency in Holistic Mental Health

The Holistic Mental Health program focuses on taking into account all aspects of our Veterans’ well-being to help them achieve optimal health and wellness. The foundation of this program is the development of collaborative mental health training and education across disciplines. The supervisee will undertake a wide range of responsibilities including: educating veterans and their families about PTSD and treatment options through LLVAHCS, individual assessment and care coordination of patients impacted by trauma, individual psychotherapy including Cognitive Processing Therapy, PE, group psychotherapy and psychoeducational classes utilizing cognitive-behavioral approaches, consultation to other treatment teams, supervision of practicum students or pre-doctoral interns, and group psychotherapy for Moral Injury and Forgiveness.

Residents will also take part in Holistic Mental Health didactics and Holistic Interprofessional Process Group on Friday afternoons. The didactics cover important elements of each discipline represented in the team as well as unique aspects of culture and diversity, with special considerations given to various world faiths and spirituality.

Postdoctoral Residency in PTSD Clinical Team

PTSD Clinical Team (PCT) is a comprehensive program providing prompt access and optimum continuity of care for veterans experiencing emotional or other psychological difficulties as a result of serious adversity or traumatic experiences in their life. The goal of PCT is to support men and women veterans with a trauma history in establishing and maintaining healthy, balanced active lives, enhance interpersonal and social skills and to strengthen their emotional health and support systems. PCT is a comprehensive program for the treatment of patients with symptoms and impairment related to traumatic life experiences, and other co-morbid conditions. The primary focus of the program is on trauma-related symptoms, including for patients who may have co-morbid DSM-5 diagnoses. PCT program model is aimed at helping veterans recover from the damaging effects of trauma and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Services offered in PCT include both psychoeducational and coping skills-based classes as well as trauma-focused evidence-based psychotherapy (e.g., Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), & Prolonged Exposure (PE)). Treatment is provided in group and individual formats. PCT takes a flexible approach to treatment and attempts to meet the veterans where they are by considering the stages of recovery and degree of readiness. Family and significant other education and support groups are also provided. Each veteran is assigned a care coordinator within the program to oversee treatment planning and progress.

Veterans receiving care in PCT are men and women in their 20s to their 80s, comprising a diverse range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as different military branches and eras of war (e.g. Vietnam, Persian Gulf, OEF/OIF/OND). Treatment is offered for a range of traumatic experiences across the life span including combat-related, sexual trauma, non-military and non-sexual traumatic events.
