Postdoctoral researcher position at Howard University
Howard University
Howard University invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar working under the supervision of Dr. Jeseth Delgado Vela. The postdoctoral scholar will work on NSF-funded project focused on biofilms in multiple applications: on medical devices and within wastewater treatment plants. The researcher will gain knowledge and skills in microbial culturing, bioinformatics, biofilm modeling, surface characterization methods, and microbial ecology of biofilms. The project will provide a unique opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research. The scholar will have the opportunity to work within state-of-the-art laboratories at the Food and Drug Administration and collaborate with FDA researchers evaluating how material properties effect biofilm formation in medical implants.

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in microbiology, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, biological system engineering, or a related field. Desired qualifications include experience with biofilm modeling, bioinformatics, and biofilm culturing. The ideal candidate is collaborative and flexible and interested in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
