Social Media Producer

Multimedia Producer
The Multiplatform Producer is part of the team that works directly with WRAL’s digital platforms: websites, mobile apps and social media. This person spends about half of their time creating original content primarily for web and apps and the other half updating our digital platforms.

Write, edit and post news stories using AP Style from a variety of sources, including WRAL-TV, web curation, original reporting, network news partners, social media and wire services, with an emphasis on delivering breaking news and enterprise news quickly and accurately to users and our social media platforms.
Embrace unique and compelling ways to present content using text, video, photos and interactive elements that stand out and get attention on the home page and can get traction on social media platforms.
Find and pitch innovative angles with timely stories.
Be a strong storyteller who gets Facebook, Crowd Tangle and can sniff out a story from social listening along with an innate ability to find and write viral stories for digital, social and television, leveraging the best style practices of each
Conceive, create and post original video for and our social media platforms by leveraging content from WRAL-TV, online video platforms and our network news partners.
Select and edit compelling images, create photo galleries, online polls and quizzes to augment online articles and increase page engagement.
Have a firm grasp of SEO and apply it when crafting headlines, online stories and other supporting content that helps drive search traffic to
Help manage WRAL social media channels while interacting with fans/followers.
Perform other duties as needed and directed.

Dow Jones News Fund
The Dow Jones News Fund internship program has a legacy of excellence dating back to 1960. Each year DJNF arranges paid internships for nearly 100 college students across the country and provides them with advanced hands-on training, industry mentors and a robust peer and alumni network to tap into.

Interns attend one-week training programs before reporting to work in paid internships at top media companies for 10 to 12 weeks. Salaries start at $525/week. Interns who are enrolled full-time or graduates with federal loans are eligible for $1,500 scholarships.

+ Multiplatform Editing: Editors assess copy for accuracy, completeness, tone and style, write headlines and design pages. During the training, interns hone their visual design, headline writing and SEO skills, strengthen their news judgment and publish high quality content on deadline.

VPM is searching for a journalist energized by the frantic pace of daily news and passionate about mentoring the next generation of public radio reporters to be our Newscast Editor & Internship Coordinator.  Reporting into the Managing Editor, this role edits daily content for VPM’s morning and afternoon newscasts and manages reporters and interns.

VPM is a public media organization serving Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. Our teams produce documentaries, TV series and digital content. The VPM News team produces award-winning journalism for our NPR and PBS stations with distribution across our digital channels to over 2 million people in VPM’s coverage area.  VPM Music is home to a 24/7 blend of classical, jazz and world music serving the Richmond region.  Additionally, VPM has recently acquired a 40-year-old weekly publication and website, Style Weekly, that covers arts and culture.  As an independent, non-profit service, we strive to create and serve a more informed public.
