The Health Departments are engaged in an innovative initiative to strengthen core local public health services, to advance the recommendations of the 2019 Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health and promote healthier communities across the region. The Regional Public Health Nurse will be based in the Town of Ludlow’s Health Department. The Regional Public Health Nurse will report to Ludlow’s Health Director and the Ludlow/Mill Towns Shared Public Health Services’ Board, which will be comprised of the Public Health Directors and/or Board of Health members from each participating municipality. The Regional Public Health Nurse will work on a regional basis to ensure coordination, support and delivery of shared resources for the participating health departments and lead efforts to secure resources for ongoing work of the shared service initiative. This position is funded through the Public Health Excellence Grant Program for Shared Services through MDPH, which expires in 2033.

Health (or their designee) and in accordance with municipal policies and objectives, and all applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and Town Bylaws.
Assists with on-call duty in conjunction with emergency response, communicable disease, public health hazards, rabies response and other health-related issues. Must be able to perform field inspection and plan reviews to ensure compliance with and enforcement of the State Sanitary and Environmental Codes, and all other related federal, state, and town, laws, bylaws and regulations. Investigates complaints, administer and enforce all of the above regulations relating to environmental protection and health promotion. Supports and assists Board of Health staff as well as other municipal staff with field inspections as needed. Participates in meetings of the Board of Health, Board of Health subcommittees, and other related meetings as needed.
Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health or related field; at least three (3) years of prior work experience; or an equivalent of education and experience. Duties will require an understanding of public health law and regulations. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be bondable.

This position is part of a Public Health Excellence Grant between the towns of Berkley, Dighton, North Attleboro, and Rehoboth, and the cities of Attleboro and Taunton. This is a grant-funded opportunity and is subject to the availability of funds. This position is administered by the Town of Berkley, however, the work will take place across the six municipalities and the work location is expected to be a combination of remote and distributed across the municipalities.
In this field-based work, you will conduct environmental health inspections and evaluations to verify compliance with state and local regulations. The scope of work includes wastewater treatment, food quality and safety, recreational and institutional facility inspections, consumer health, and occupational health and safety. Following your investigation, you’ll consult with facility owners/managers to present and discuss findings and determine the appropriate plan of action for abating violations that were cited during the inspection. Since most of the work calls for you to be in the field, you will often work under adverse environmental conditions, including weather, dirt, grease, smoke, fumes, and/or irritating chemicals, and around heavy machinery and its moving parts.

Coordinates and staffs the regional tobacco advisory committee. Ensures timely submission of all Collaborative reports, including submitting programmatic and fiscal reports to the Department of Public Health. Coordinate and provides merchant and accompanying community education regarding minor tobacco and nicotine product access and second-hand smoke exposure issues. Attends policy development coalition meetings as appropriate.
