ESOL Teacher: English for Parents (online)
Literacy Partners
We are looking for an exceptional individual who will be responsible for teaching four adult ESOL classes, all virtually over zoom. This position is a member of a teaching team and will join our diverse, social justice-oriented team.

Literacy Partners strengthens families through a two-generation approach to education. With our free classes, community-based workshops, and educational media, low-income parents develop the literacy and language skills they need to succeed in today’s world. Our research-based curriculum incorporates child development and parent support to help parents boost their children’s early reading, school readiness, and health and wellness.

The Position: The English for Parents Teacher (online) will be responsible for teaching four adult ESOL classes, all virtually over zoom. All classes are designed for parents of young children and emphasize parent-child connection, reading with children, early childhood development, and health literacy. We focus on parents in order to have a two-generation impact: helping low-income, immigrant parents gain the skills they need to create a better life for themselves while advancing their children’s cognitive development and health.

Manager of Volunteers and Home Libraries (in-person and online)
Literacy Partners

We are looking for an exceptional individual who believes in our mission, and wants to develop skills and experience in non-profit volunteer management and two-generation approaches to literacy. This position will join our diverse, social justice oriented team of 34 staff and more than 100 interns and volunteers.

At Literacy Partners, volunteers and books are at the heart of our programs and outreach. Our volunteers work as tutors, facilitators, conversation partners and assistant teachers. Their long-term commitment to our programs enables relationships to develop that are integral to student learning and community. There are a number of volunteers who provide help for in-person and virtual events from time to time.

We also provide a home library of children’s books to each of our students. Each year, we receive over 10,000 books from publishers to distribute to families in our programs and the community. Health Equity Program Manager (in-person and online)
Literacy Partners
Parents come to Literacy Partners to transform their lives and create a brighter future for their children through the power of literacy. Through our free adult literacy classes, workshops, and educational media, parents further develop the literacy and language skills they need to solve problems, achieve their goals, and better promote their children’s early learning, social emotional growth, and school readiness.

Our Health Equity Program was created in 2021 after several years of promoting health literacy skills in our English for Parents classes. The initial focus was on improving access to Covid-19 vaccines and referring students for services in relation to the “social determinants of health.” Our current program has four components:

We work with a network of health care providers who refer the parents of their pediatrics patients to us for classes.
We screen our students for the “social determinants of health” and make referrals to appropriate social services.
We incorporate health literacy skills development into our English classes (and soon our basic reading classes as well).
We promote the leadership skills of our immigrant parent students to serve as peer mentors and parent ambassadors to other students.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to manage our Health Equity Program, providing leadership to ensure we achieve our goals and continually improve our approaches. Reporting to the Executive Director of Adult and Family Literacy, the Health Equity Manager is part of our diverse, social justice oriented team of 35 staff and more than 100 volunteers and interns.
