Resource Ranger/Interpreter

Under the direction of the Assistant Park Superintendent, this position is responsible for monitoring, managing, and restoring the natural and cultural resources of Galveston Island State Park. Performs complex (journey-level) operations work in a state park. This positions also works closely with regional staff to assist at other parks throughout the region. Responsibilities include sustaining and supporting wildlife and plant communities and addressing problems associated with the management of natural resources at the park. Plans and carries out various assignments of natural resource management. which may include herbicide application in the park's prairie and wetland areas, shredding prairies, manual removal of trees, and controlling invasive species. Assists with conducting prescribed burns and is responsible for sensitive site management and feral animal control. Assists with the coordination of all natural and cultural resource clearances for projects and monitors cultural sites around the park. Assists with the development of comprehensive Natural and Cultural Resource Management Plans for the park. Assists with interpretative programming and large school groups, park promotion, marketing, volunteer recruitment, preparation of assigned reports, trains staff and volunteers, maintains adjacent landowner relationships and coordinates academia research permits. Performs routine park maintenance, issues permits, collects revenue, registers visitors, and provides information to park guests and visitors. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Natural Resource Specialist - Exhibit Curator

As a biologist for Inland Fisheries, a member of Outreach and Education team, and the Curator for the exhibits team at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC), and under the direction of the Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for both the long-term strategic and daily planning, coordinating, and operations of the exhibits, including aquaria and educational displays at TFFC. Scope of duties includes planning, organizing, recordkeeping, and coordinating animal husbandry and aquarium life support systems to ensure consistently high standards of animal care. Plans exhibit changes under the general direction of the manager with latitude for independent action. Organizes and conducts public education and outreach activities. Leads and directs activities of a team of permanent technicians, interns, and volunteers. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Under the direction of the Regional Director, this position is responsible for the preservation, protection, administration, operation, and maintenance of Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. Performs highly complex (senior-level) park management work. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: cultural and natural resource stewardship, financial management (including budget planning, preparation, and monitoring), revenue management, and human resources management to include recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce. Responsible for public safety programs, maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment, customer service, public relations, marketing and promotion, interpretation and education, coordinating special events, engaging in community outreach that includes a diverse/underserved visitor base, volunteer development, and coordination of partnerships. Identifies, develops, and administers program budgets. Responsible for other assigned projects required by the Region and Austin headquarters office.
