The cardiothoracic radiology fellowship program is a 1 year training program. We offer a joint fellowship with National Jewish Health. The joint program at National Jewish Health and the University of Colorado (CU) consistently ranks among the top hospitals in the country for adult pulmonology and lung surgery. CU is the main academic and teaching institution for the Rocky Mountain Region. This fellowship offers extraordinary opportunities for continued learning, research and clinical interactions, designed to develop broad-based expertise in all forms of non-invasive cardiothoracic imaging and image processing. The program is non-ACGME and does not participate in the National Resident Matching Program.
National Jewish Health is an international referral center for clinical care of pulmonary diseases, and includes a diverse population of outpatients with respiratory and cardiac disease. The practice is enriched by a large population of patients with interstitial lung disease, asthma, COPD, and occupational lung disease. At CU there is a more general population of patients requiring chest imaging studies, with particular emphasis on thoracic oncology, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiothoracic surgery, including a large lung transplantation program. Upon completion of the program, fellows will be able to image all forms of chest and cardiovascular disease with appropriate tools and to answer clinical questions with confidence and a great degree of expertise.

University of California San Francisco Welcome to NASCI 2024!
The UCSF Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship is designed to train the next generation of leaders in the field. Fellows, under faculty supervision, will... be guided in developing expertise in all aspects of clinical thoracic imaging including MRI (cardiovascular MRI and MRA), coronary CT angiography, chest CT, high-resolution CT and biopsy techniques. Fellows are integrated into the section as colleagues, serve both fellow and clinical instructor roles, and by the end of the fellowship will be confident in independently interpreting a range of exams and performing CT-guided thoracic biopsies. Fellows receive 1 academic day per week to pursue academic pursuits including independent learning, observing procedures, performing research, or preparing lectures.
At UCSF, the cardiothoracic imaging section maintains a central role in adult cardiothoracic radiography, CT, and adult cardiac/thoracic MRI, pediatric congenital heart CTA/MRI, and CT-guided lung and mediastinal biopsies. We work closely with thoracic and cardiac surgery, lung transplant surgery, pediatric congenital heart surgery, cardiology, pulmonology, and infectious disease to deliver high level multidisciplinary care. Our main reading room is busy and dynamic, with a constant flow of interesting cases from clinical teams. As a busy referral center, we see a wide range of pathologies, and fellows benefit from exposure to common, uncommon, and rare conditions.
There are 3 available spots for the 2026-2027 academic year and thereafter (never too early to find out more information). We encourage you to come join our collegial, dynamic group in the beautiful city of San Francisco, CA.
Please note that fellows must be able to obtain a California medical license by the start of the fellowship.
