Worker Center Organizer
MassCOSH
MassCOSH seeks a Worker Center Organizer who will provide training and support organizing and advocacy efforts of immigrant workers seeking to address unsafe and unhealthy workplace conditions, discrimination, wage and hour violations, etc. The Worker Center Organizer will also participate in other MassCOSH initiatives to promote safe and healthy working conditions for workers, particularly low-income, immigrant workers. The Worker Center Organizer will report to the Worker Center Director.
 
Duties:

Encourage, support and assist workers to organize for workplace improvements. Specifically, support groups of workers, helping them overcome their fears of organizing and understand realistically the challenges they face; help workers develop an organizing strategy and think through all the possible ways they can pressure their employer to improve conditions; link workers with other resources available through MassCOSH (health/safety experts, attorneys, volunteers with experience in workers’ compensation, MCAD, etc.).

In coordination with the Worker Center Director, set specific goals for recruitment, worker support, membership and leadership development.

Help recruit, train, support, and encourage worker volunteers who can support worker-organizing campaigns

Encourage workers participating to become members of the Worker Center and to take increasing leadership roles in the program and within the organization.

Communicate to workers about events and engage them with unions and community groups

Provide introductory health and safety training/orientation sessions to help encourage workers to participate in organizing efforts.

Conduct intake for workers to identify priority issues and encourage them to participate in worker clinics.

Keep track of the progress of worker organizing campaigns by writing down their progress in the campaign form and in databases.

Meet weekly with the Worker Center team to report on the progress of the above efforts.

Health and Safety Trainer
MassCOSH
MassCOSH seeks a bi-lingual, full-time trainer to organize and conduct health and safety trainings in both English and Spanish for workers, unions and community organizations, especially immigrant, low wage workers and to develop and deliver health and safety training through our partnership with TNEC.  Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in: worker health & safety, safety processes covered by OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste and emergency response (HAZWOPER) regulations, work environment hazards and adult participatory / popular education. Quick learning-curve and uptake necessary.
 
Duties:
Primarily responsibilities include:
 
Prepare for, organize and conduct hands-on, participatory health and safety training educational sessions that introduce workers to resources and rights they can use to identify, prevent and address health and safety concerns.   
Working as part of a multi-trainer team in collaboration with the New England Consortium, offer 46 training days of OSHA 10-hour Construction, confined space, HAZWOPER and other courses, using a popular education approach.
Lead safety training modules, hands on demonstrations, verification and testing of safe and proper use of equipment and monitoring the effectiveness of the training
Develop proficiency in the understanding, use of and maintenance of equipment used in training courses as well as equipment, devices and supplies used in the field of environmental services, hazardous materials management, clean-up and emergency response.
Travel to courses, both in and out of state, including occasional overnight and multi-day sessions, meetings, conferences, seminars, or other meetings 
Additional responsibilities will include:
 
Achieve and maintain appropriate professional credentials and certifications
Participate in course & trainer evaluation
Participate in curriculum development and revision for TNEC courses.

Domestic Worker Campaign Organizer
New Labor
New Labor seeks an energetic organizer for our Lakewood, NJ center. This position includes coordinating our Domestic Worker Campaign with member leaders to uphold local standards and fight for a statewide bill of rights. some of this work includes: coordination of Comité de Trabajadoras Domésticas; survey work; leadership development and campaign strategy and tactics; interfacing with the National Domestic Worker Alliance.  Additionally the organizer will coordinate and help build the Lakewod, NJ center and support other  New Labor campaigns including: temp worker bill of rights; workplace organizing and enforcement of worker labor law protections; drivers licenses; ESL and workplace health and safety trainings. Mostly in Lakewood, but will include some work in Newark / New Brunswick.
