Employment Specialist

JVS is seeking an Employment Specialist. The purpose of this position is to provide job placement assistance, employment-related services tailored to the needs of underserved populations, e.g. persons with disabilities, low-income adults, homeless persons, those at risk of homelessness, displaced homemakers, veterans, and persons with limited work skills.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in education, health services or other related fields
One or more years of experience working with youth with disabilities, at-risk youth or youth from underserved communities
Experience with job readiness techniques preferred i.e. resume writing, interviewing skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
As this position requires site visits to locations which may or may not be accessible by public transportation, it is required that you be able to drive, have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle to travel in the Chicago metropolitan area
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Provides one-on-one job readiness training and/or teaches group job readiness training classes on topics such as resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, networking, job search techniques, and conflict resolution
Matches candidates’ skills and abilities to employers’ needs. Acts as a liaison to both parties to assist with employment retention
Comfortable completing outreach and marketing activities to recruit employers and grow employment opportunities for assigned caseload. Speaks and writes clearly and informatively with a diverse range of stakeholders in a variety of mediums
Initiates telephone and/or face-to-face contacts with potential employers and referral sources to introduce and explain Agency services, and learn about current job openings
Maintains accurate and updated records and files of employer and client contacts in paper and the Agency’s/Program’s database

Job Coach

JVS is seeking a Job Coach. The purpose of this position is to provide employment-related job coaching and follow-up services to individuals with severe disabilities and to interact with key stakeholders to support the individual’s specific needs.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent
One year of experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
Flexible schedule that may allow for evening or weekend hours to support client needs
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Learning Facilitator

Design, plan, and facilitate academic tutorials customized for groups of 15-20 5th-8th grade CPS students

Leads, participates in, and is responsible for after school program activities at assigned sites

Advises the Lead Learning Facilitator as to what supplies, materials, and other forms of support are needed for day-to-day activities

Supervises all PODER participants to ensure a safe and organized after-school program

Assists with the planning and facilitation of special projects and events

Attends staff development workshops

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Youth Services Specialist
The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland has a position open for a Youth Services Specialist with a background in workforce development, preferably in the Southern Maryland region.
Responsibilities include conducting participant intake, orientation and workshop facilitation, assessments, data entry as it relates to the workforce development program. Job entails utilization of job search and career counseling. Knowledge of workforce and career preparation programs and services is preferred.
Candidate must monitor participant involvement and progress in program activities including career planning and educational guidance, placement services and complete all required reporting and case management documentation.
Requires excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to work independently, within deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Must have bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related human services field or work experience on a year-for-year basis may be substituted for required post- secondary education. Experience with federal laws and regulations pertaining to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) strongly preferred.
Conditions of employment: daily access to a vehicle, clean driving record, clean background check, ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
The Council is committed to providing the necessary equipment to perform this job. Employees are required to have electronic equipment provided by the Council. Employees are responsible for the equipment and replacement and will sign a form agreeing to this condition.
Salary range ($38,880-$44,901) based on education and experience. Position Closes 12/28/18
