Position is for Lea County, headquarters in Lovington, NM.
Successful candidate will:
-Provide leadership and guidance to Extension educational programs in agriculture (both major area crop and livestock, including both beef and dairy), urban horticulture, community and economic development, and natural resources management throughout the county. • Coordinates delivery of produce boxes and orders to local restaurants, school delivery, hospitals, senior centers, and community centers throughout San Juan County (Shiprock, Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield).
• Performs cash handling duties including collecting payments or receipts from customers and reconciling cash and equivalents to receipts; maintaining accurate records and following internal controls and proper cash handling procedures; as assigned.
• Loads vehicles, ensuring that product quality is maintained.
• Set up pick-up sites in various locations.
• Helps at storefront with Retail Market, as needed.
• Handles food according to safe food handling practices.
• Maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
• Prepares for and assists volunteers in examining perishable foods for quality and disposes of food not suitable for consumption and boxes up food suitable for distribution.
• Works with staff to identify projects and needed supplies for distribution services.
• Maintains positive customer relationships with volunteers, partner agencies and producers.
• Ensures that all stock and inventory items are maintained in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, standards and program guidelines – executes physical count.
• Ensures the proper maintenance and recording of inventory levels for food and nonfood items.
• Observes all local, state, and federal regulations in warehouse operations.

The Thornburg Foundation is seeking applications from qualified candidates to lead its Food & Agriculture (F&A) Initiative, which supports the advancement of more resilient, sustainable, and localized food and agricultural systems in New Mexico. The F&A Policy Officer position will be responsible for overall direction of the F&A strategy as well as managing a multi-year grantmaking portfolio consistent with the F&A strategic plan.

Essential Duties:

Work closely with perspective and current grantees to develop new grant applications, support grant implementation, and ensure grant reporting.
Manage an annual grantmaking portfolio of approximately $1 million and 20-25 grants per year.
Prepare and deliver quarterly presentations to the Foundation’s Board of Directors on the progress of the F&A Initiative and grant recommendations.
Coordinate and collaborate with partners and stakeholders to advance a strong research and policy agenda.
Work in a bi-partisan way to build coalitions and engage diverse stakeholders in any strategy, such as national and local business organizations, community and elected officials, Tribal entities, legal experts, non-profit organizations, foundations and community-based organizations.
Ongoing engagement and consultations with national, regional and state funders and funding collaboratives around the F&A work.
Provide necessary reporting and updates to the Executive Director for his communications with the Thornburg Foundation executive committee.
Works with the highest integrity and in full compliance with applicable rules, regulations and standards.
Occasional travel in-state as well as national travel required.
