Deep Learning Researcher (PhD)

We have a track record of taking cutting edge research and making it work for real products: we have a team of experienced reserachers, the necessary resources (in-house labelling and domain experts) and a large volume of data (100M+ images) to train our algorithms.
THE RESEARCH TEAM Our main focus at the moment is on the auto insurance industry: we are building models that can understand the ways in and extent to which a car is damaged. As opposed to most applied DL problems, this is a visual task on which trained experts with decades of experience require ~30 seconds of thinking time to arrive at a decision. We have currently modelled most of the external parts of a car, which is the basis of our audit product currently being used by 5+ major insurers. In addition to further improvements on these models we are now turning to combining them with metadata and even more sophisticated visual models, with the objective of further accelerating the process of vehicle damage assessment.

Role Summary This role will be involved primarily in development and pre-development projects at the lab. We have currently modelled most of the external parts of a car, which is the basis of our audit product currently being used by 5+ major insurers. In addition to further improvements on these models we are now turning to combining them with metadata and even more sophisticated visual models, with the objective of further accelerating the process of vehicle damage assessment.

We are looking for passionate research engineers with expertise in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and software engineering. As a research engineer, you will be a part of our AI team working closely with researchers to develop and train novel machine learning models for high impact problems in medical imaging. Through our partnerships with multiple health systems in the U.S., we are in the process of building medical imaging datasets at an unprecedented scale, which are being annotated by our extensive clinical team to obtain clean ground truth. You will engage in training and testing these novel models on our proprietary datasets. In addition, a key part of your job will be to collaborate with our engineering team to help productionize the trained models. While doing so you will not only gain valuable experience in AI, but will also get a first-hand look at how these models are scaled and deployed in high impact real-world settings.
Responsibilities Work closely with AI researchers to develop scalable algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, particularly neural network methodologies Own the entire training pipeline -- pre-process and massage the data to make it suitable for model training, implement parametric models, train them on the pre-processed dataset, and finally test it on the held out set and real users Analyze the results and refine the model and/or its training to improve its performance and make it production ready Work closely with our engineering team to transfer the technology Conduct exploratory data analysis to extract patterns in large swaths of data, in order to gain insights into it, which in-turn will enable to better modeling A non-trivial part of this job will involve model exploration.
